Customization

So we have been told that we will be able to customize our character, our armor, and our weapons. Great news for RPers and those who do not wish to look like everyone else.

Colors, scopes, and other gadgets that you wish to apply to your weapons, looks quite promising from the concept art. How are you planning to use this feature?

Do you like a certain color scheme? Maybe changing by your mood? If you character is light, would you choose a lighter color, like light blue? Or if you are evil, the darker colors? PersonallyI like dark colors, be it black, dark red, maybe a touch of yellow for that "wasp" look. Or does it matter to you?

We have been shown, not told, but shown in the concept art, of weapons with extra doodads on them, scopes on one, shorter over alllength on another. Would you like to see total customization of weapons and gear? From the barrel to the buttons on your robe? Or do you accept what they give you?

The picture above shows what appears to be a very close look at customization, barrel size, the hammer, and the color.

Full customization leads to greater immersion, I don't think everyone wants to looks the same, and adding this feature would spice it up a bit. So I am just wondering, what do you, would you, customize your character like?

I'm a big fan of wearing all black, haha, all my t-shirts and shirts (xcept my work shirts) are black. If I can color all my gear, I'm going to be sporting it and make it feared amongst my enemies :p

The weapon customization sounds more like it will be an affect base customization rather then a visual one. Like when you add a scope, it will improve your aiming rather than make your weapon look cool with a shinny new scope that really does nothing other than look good.

I hope they don't institute a dye system like Guild Wars and instead just make it easy and straightforward.

I am a fan of Black, Grey, and Orange. ;) My Sith Trooper will totally follow that scheme.

I dont blame you for that color scheme. I was playing kotor 2 earlier today and orange lightsabers look so cool.

I see all black as just badass, but to many people will be going that route. Like I probably will as well

You will be shocked at just how many color uncoordinated people there are if the option is easy to work. I learned this when my guild had a tabard design contest in WoW. It was a disaster. XD

I'm excited about customization :D One thing I hated about WoW was that everyone looked exactly the same at end game... I'm still not sure what I would do for customization though.

Yeah just hoping every character doesn't look exactly the same at endgame.

All I know is that if I see someone in the game who looks the same as my character (and hasn't done it deliberately) I will get very angry.

How do you want to customize your character? Would you explain? Trying to picture it =)

I don't think the different physical designs are simply benign, these look like weapon upgrades. Meaning the customization comes in the form of a palette swap. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't think the weapons on the top are the same strength as the ones on the bottom.

Hoping they are a bit different than just pallet swaps as well. Still early though.

It's possible that the screenshots just show the possible ways in which a basic weapon can be customised. I'm thinking that rather than players simply getting new and better guns, it's also possible to upgrade weapons you currently have.

So, for example, you may start with "blaster of noobface", which you can then add upgrades too. You might get a scope from killing "facemelt" (let's call it the facemelt scope) which you can then add to your "blaster of noobface" in turn improving it.

If they used this method, it's highly likely that no two players would have the same, especially if the upgrades have trade offs. So, for example, if you install a certain scope, you can't upgrade the barrel. You are therefore forced to choose which suits your play style more :).

*I don't think noobface or facemelt will be in the game :D

Sounds like that could be the way things are.
If you look at kotor you could slap these parts on your guns, but it wouldnt show. Perhaps now you can tell you made upgrades.

That's very likely but I do think noobfacemelt will be in the game ;).

I see what you are saying, it looks like stages if I am correct. It could be different "levels" of the weapons.

For lots of games I dont take concept art into much consideration, but this game is an exception. I have seen lots of weapons shown in concept make it to recent video of gameplay. Lets hope that the customization comes along too.

Your exception is remarkably well exceptioned =)

I was watching the making of Star Wars EP I - VI and George Lucas talked about how in the old days of making movies, concept never turned out to be reality. However, in this modern day of making movies concept is basically what we get in the final product.

A couple of years ago, George Lucas merged his gaming studios and movie studios into one because they are now using the same technology to create their goods. Since Lucas Arts is helping BioWare create TOR, it would make sense they are following a long the same path of concept/design mentality.
