One of the aspects of the website that has received some complaints has been our stance on using the newest to oldest comment system instead of the other way around to try to promote discussion on the most recent comments. A few people have expressed that they do not like the newest to oldest system and would rather see a oldest to newest (from top down). Due to this we have decided on reaching out to the community to see what you would like to see on this point in the form of a poll. Let us know why you chose the option as well in the comments section of this post.

Since this has been such a controversial subject on the site we are coding in an option for the users of the site to be able to define which way they want it.
Hm, I wonder if it’s possible to make Comments Order an option for each user to change in their user profile? If that was available, it’d be a nice compromise. “Newest to Oldest”, but changeable in your profile.
That is exactly what we are doing.
I am in favor of “Oldest to Newest”. The other way is just confusing. You start at the very top and work your way down reading the post, then when you hit comments, you gotta go to the very bottom and work your way up, if you’re still into reading “Oldest to Newest” like most everything else on the internet does. Just seems contradictory, reading the blog posts up to down(the order the words were written), then having to read the comments down to up to see them in similar chronological order.
And yes, I like oldest first, so I don’t neglect the older posts. I read all the comments anyways, so the newer posts aren’t being neglected at all. It’s just confusing to see opposite order of comments.
I would have hit reply, but this makes RogueJedi’s point better. I agree with him and I prefer the Oldest to Newest as well.
