Planet Coruscant Revealed - Trailer
by sado
, posted September 4th, 2009 at 8:08 PM
Planet Coruscant was just announced during the PAX Star Wars: The Old Republic demonstration and as such we were lucky enough to be able to record the trailer of the planet shown via the demonstration stage screen, hope you like it.

We also have a high-resolution direct link for the video. If you download the video via the direct link you will have to have the Divx codec or use VLCPlayer to view it. Note: This was recorded via a cam, so not a direct feed. Hopefully they post a direct feed of the trailer later. Thanks has to go to Pete and Sleeper (two members of the team here at Darth Hater) for recording it for us.

If you liked the video please Digg it if you would be so kind. :)

Update: We now have an HD version of the trailer that we recorded on the 3rd day of PAX.

Fantastic job Pete and Sleeper! Well this is awesome news, but do you think that's all the reveals they will give? I'm thinking maybe saving the best for last? However I have never been to any game conferences like this and do not know how they are laid out. Anyways, keep up the great work guys, much appreciated!

Awesome! Thanks so much.
It doesnt look like holonet planets video or "diverse worlds", its more like advertisment trailer. I guess it mean something :)

Looks like your video has met the dreaded 300 view bug and is no longer reporting any new views on the video :(

He said harvesting... I wonder if they mean WoW-type harvesting or SWG-type harvesting! My money is on SWG-type harvesting since it was only the best type harvesting in an MMO to date and that dev I'm told is working on TOR too!

...on yeah and kick ass on Coruscant being a planet!

Comment by The BBP made on September 6th, 2009 at 2:37am
I personally do not dig seeing harvesters all over the land. I hope they come up with a better concept than that.

look at that cloak at 1:09.
fucking awesome right there.

The only problem I see with the cloak is the upper body looks like it's painted on.

I hope this is a high quality release next week.

Cheers to the boys for capturing this for us.

It's great that Coruscant has finally made it's way into a game, and I hate to be the Hater, but it's still just another zone. Bioware has proven they have a ton of cool gimmicks in TOR, but none of that will mean anything if the gameplay isn't any fun.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of the stuff appears to be very cool. But, what it all boils down to, and what they refuse to talk about, is that the combat shown so far is very underwhelming. Like Mass Effect (thankfully they are addressing this in the sequel) and all the other Bioware games (yes, I thought KotOR's combat was very weak too), I hope gameplay doesn't end up taking a back seat to story and flash. It's fine in a single player RPG, but if I'm going to be investing years into a game, it's going to have to have great gameplay/combat.

An example: WoW has few gimmicks and little flash, but what it does possess is tons of... Gameplay.

Of course, all the above is my opinion - feel free to cry me a river if you disagree.

Comment by Chasted made on September 5th, 2009 at 9:03pm
I have a feeling I'll be one of many posts but to what we have seen of the combat it seems to follow the WoW's style with it's own unique flair. In a general video when watching a person do PvE on WoW it looks bland and lacking but as some of you know, when you are actually raiding it is far from that.

This is my own opinion and it's an internet forum so my tears will be kept for real life though, sorry :(

Its impressive that they can make a planet like this work for mid-range machines. BioWare devs rock ^.^

Seeing the demo up on the big screen gave me an evilgasm.

Yup, they are spending tons of money and taking directions from headquarters quite well. Pete also manages to sit real still for the footage.
