Imperial Agent Revealed at European Press Event

Exciting news this morning for fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic. The Imperial Agent class was revealed at a European press event, and is currently popping up in Google alerts across the internet. We first noticed news from Now Gamer about the reveal. Shortly after, Sean Dahlberg made the official announcement on the TOR forums.

And the next class reveal is:

For those of you who may have attended or read reviews from the Electronic Arts European Press Tour that happened earlier this week, you already know the answer to this. Its the Imperial Agent

The Imperial Agent is heavily inspired by several classic Star Wars characters such as Zam Wessel and Grand Moff Tarkin. Imperial Agents work behind the scenes to get the work of the Empire done. Specializing in high-tech gear, the Imperial Agent always has the right tools at the right time. They use abilities of subversion and subterfuge to infiltrate and assassinate enemies of the Sith Empire with deadly efficiency. Players who choose to be Imperial Agents in The Old Republic (TOR) will see the underbelly of the Empire in a whole new light.

Stay tuned for the Imperial Agents HoloNet update next week. In the meanwhile, join the speculation on the Imperial Agents class forums

We were also able to see the first screenshots for the Imperial Agent courtesy of Inc Gamers, and here they are

Now that this information has been confirmed by BioWare, we are just waiting for more class data to analyze. We are following this news closely, and, as more is revealed, we will keep you up to date. So stay tuned to Darth Hater

[...] Last Friday was a big Friday for fans of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Old Republic.  Not only were we presented with a new episode of the web comic, as well as a more in depth look at the Republic Jedi Knight class, but more details emerged for yet another class for the Sith Empire; the Imperial Agent.  The initial release for the new class was announced earlier last week at the Electronic Arts European Press Tour and highlighted for us on Darthhaters blog post. So far it seems there's a two-choise body shape modifier: "Beefy" and "Slim".

Or as the Bioware fellas would say it:

"We will be tapping into the desire of players wanting to experience either the Angelina Jolie/Jeniffer Lopez fantasy or the Amy Winehouse archtype."

"As for the males; they'll be able to choose between the iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger type or the typical Brad Pitt role."

Wait. What? Huh?!

I fail to check this site one morning and there's the Imperial Agent?

They're making fun of me and my exel sheet aren't they?

Also: I predicted a speed-up in Timeline reveals. Not a speed-up in class reveals!

They're totally making fun of us. I horrably fail as an SW:TOR seer.

I guess I'll leave it up to you Darth Haters. That way I can read it and pretend to be indifferent while others do the over-exited geeky work for me.

stealth/sniper class? maybe packing an electric vibro-dagger when foes get close, based off the web comics and every ranged class so far has a cc in melee range. looks good though, cant wait to see him on the holonet.

I'm excited for the story line of this class. There are a lot of cool and interesting things you can do with an Imperial Agent in the star wars universe, so I imagine it will be a fun class to quest with.

Comment by Pangscar made on November 6th, 2009 at 12:43pm
Did they actually say they were inspired from the Moffs, Trakin etc or was that just creative license on the authors part? Because the moffs were not really the ones getting their hands dirty, they were the ones ordering people to get their hands dirty and do things we will be doing as the Imperial Agent class.

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on November 6th, 2009 at 9:41pm
Presumably Agent is meant to be the political side of the Sith Empire, contrasting with the Sith Warriors being the Force side of the Empire. You start as a lowly assassin like Zam Wessel, and advance in ranks to eventually be a Grand Moff Tarkin like figure who still fights in combat. I can imagine alot of potential in their storyline, dealing with enemies and corrupted allies alike.

Comment by Pangscar made on November 6th, 2009 at 1:05pm
EDIT: Just saw Seans comments about the inspiration for the, Zam I can see but I stand by the point the Tarkin or the Moffs were not agents, they were officers who gave orders and didn't get their own hands dirty.

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 1:23pm
I don't see it either. The Moffs were the leaders of the Imperials and Zam was a Bounty Hunter.

It would be clearer if they said it was based on Mara Jade. Even though she was more of a Sith Spy instead of an Imperial Agent. On the other had, we haven't got any further info on the Imperial Agent yet. :)

Comment by Chronium made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:42pm
Oh and how are Sith Spy and imperial agent different?

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 4:05pm
The big difference is naming. A Sith doesn't necessarily have to be an Imperial and an Imperial is practically never a Sith.

Comment by Chronium made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:41pm
The book Death Star by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry is probably the main example for Tarkin as a Imperial Agent. But really we would have to see there description of a Agent first.

Comment by DirectX made on November 6th, 2009 at 6:38pm
I agree that Tarkin and Zam were bad choices. The expanded universe and wiki both say Zam is a BH.

Garindan would be a good example, but not many know who he is. ^.^ I mean... his voice was a synthesized John Wayne clip. How cool is that?!

Comment by Varnsta made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:11pm
Zam wasn't a BH tho, she was trying to carry out a job for one. She was way more Agent than BH as far as i could see. No Jet Pack, or flamethrower, or heavy armour, and a Sniper type rifle like the screenies here. All makes sense to me. And i like to think that Tarkin was an active agent in his prime, working his way up to Moff as he got older.

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 4:04pm
Since when does a Jet Pack and/or Flamthrower define a BH? Just take a look at Greedo or Cad Bane for instance.

According to screenshots and forum posts the planet from these screenshots is balmorra... i wonder if that means that republic is also gonna have class which "fits" to that pvp environment??? what would it be if it is so? sry for my bad english

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 12:46pm
What makes you think this is a PvP planet? This isn't confimred in any way yet.

Comment by Chronium made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:33pm
read the description of the planet again, it does confirm there will be pvp on the planet

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 4:09pm
I don't see it confirming anything. Have you got a quote for me that does? Maybe I'm overlooking it.

Comment by Chronium made on November 6th, 2009 at 7:24pm
I am saying that those hints, which they are, do confirm pvp. The majority of Bioware's announcements have only been confirming there hints.

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 7:01pm
Hold on mate. You are the one first saying that this discription confirms pvp. But it doesn't confirm anything.

Now you're going back to hints. Which I already agreed on if you read my comments.

Comment by Chronium made on November 6th, 2009 at 6:20pm
what are you talking about those are huge hints that this planet is a pvp planet. What it does not say though is what kind of pvp planet. It does not hint anything more then a contested zone like in WoW.

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 5:13pm
I read that too. Doesn't say anything about PVP. It's possible, but we don't know anything about those gamemechanics yet, so that isn't written in stone.

"kept Balmorra in a constant state of war."

"the Sith Empire resolved to take Balmorra, and in answer the Galactic Republic sent soldiers to aid the Balmorrans in their fight to preserve their independence."

"A small, underground Republic force was left on the planet to aid their Resistance"

"Now, years after the treaty, a regrouped and rebuilt Republic is testing the limits of their fragile peace with the Empire, sending back the reinforcements they had pulled off the planet years before."

"Meanwhile, the Sith Empire is escalating their presence on the planet, determined to claim Balmorra’s weapons, and put an end to this conflict once and for all."

Guys, you simply ignored the fact that this is the first time ever we see female playing characters on screenshots. ;)

Comment by Pinio made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:17pm
I checked. There are female player characters on several screenshots to date (e.g. sith warrior). But this is good if we have more ;)

I don't forget, but radical said about screenshots. This BH female gameplay is one of my most favourite ;)

Well, if this is the "proof" of a particular class, then we're bound to see some kind of Mandalorian class I guess. The timeline entries before this one clearly stated that the Mandalorians were alligned with the Empire.

Comment by XANE made on November 6th, 2009 at 7:50pm
Devs have stated that we wont get to play a Mando 'initially', I'm guessing 1st expansion.

Comment by Chronium made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:35pm
Yes but they were tricked once they find out that they are puppets to the Sith the alliance would be broken. It would not be good game design to have a class based on a faction that will most likely leave the Sith.

Comment by Bzrk made on November 6th, 2009 at 4:11pm
They haven't found out yet that Mandalore is actually a Sith puppet though.

Anyway, maybe this could be a future third allegiance or something.

Comment by Chronium made on November 6th, 2009 at 4:26pm
I know they haven't found out yet it's most likely going to be one of the main story plots for the Republic

Comment by Colm made on November 6th, 2009 at 11:31am
These screenshots look so much more finished then we have seen before. Textures are beautiful and definition is unreal.

Comment by Pinio made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:36pm
Yes. I have downloaded all screenshots, and this is striking when look through them. If I have something to accuse that be only place where first and fourth screenshots was captured. I mean this places are deserted. Balmorra's screenshots are more "littered". This is only in exposure meaning ;) And maybe they can do something with grass draw range :)

Comment by Zihn made on November 6th, 2009 at 12:52pm
I agree that the recent images for both Imperial Agent and Jedi Knight look much nicer than some of the earlier shots we had. Is it just me, though, or does the blonde woman's left arm look kinda funny?

Comment by DirectX made on November 6th, 2009 at 6:45pm
It does look a bit emaciated and bent ;)

Comment by Pinio made on November 6th, 2009 at 1:35pm
Maybe not funny, but she looks for me a bit much slimer than for example the second woman on fourth picture. This is like Meiko from bounty hunter gameplay versus first oficer from flashpoint. Different hips and breasts size (argument for customization scope). She has big armor on shoulders.

Comment by Scarybooster made on November 6th, 2009 at 11:23am
Trooper= Bounty Hunter
Jedi Knight= Sith Warrior
Smuggler= Imperial Agent
?? (Creature Handler)= ?? (Droid Engineer) come on pet classes. I'll be sad if the game has no pet classes. This also brings up the question: Does a Smuggler have stealth?

Comment by Khilmael made on November 6th, 2009 at 1:18pm
I don't think there will be pet classes. Don't forget that on SWTOR, players will have characters with them, as in KOTOR.

Comment by Scarybooster made on November 6th, 2009 at 2:18pm
Umm, I have not seen that. I must of missed that announcement. Did they have a video or blog entry talking about combat NPC folloing your character around?

Comment by Varnsta made on November 6th, 2009 at 3:23pm
Companion characters were announced at the very beginning bud. Confirmed that everyone will be able to have one companion active along side u as u play, or u can stay solo. So there really isnt a sensible argument for a specific handler class.
