I really think the Republic needs a stealth class. If one side has the stealth ability it will have a huge advantage in pvp. I think of games like WAR, WOW, and DAOC. Could you imagine the faction pvp imbalance if you eliminated the stealth classes from just one side?

If BW only gives the imperials a stealth class then they will have to give a republic class a HUGE counter to it.
Comment by Deidare made on 11/16/09 10:02:30 AM
Thats just the thing the Republic could easily have another class to counter stealth, for example the trooper could get an ability that could allow him/her to temporarily detect stealthed enemies. Which wouldn't make the Agent so OP then. Besides, in other MMOs rogue classes never had good defense and die fairly fast when seen by ranged enemies. So I'm sure the Agent wont be much of a problem, especially since its such a complex survival class. Most players won't know what to do with all the survival moves, and wont use them, and will drop like flys by heavy armored players.
Comment by jerlot made on 11/16/09 10:52:56 AM
The only other problem I have is that a stealth class is a staple of most other MMO's. It basically like telling one faction in a fanatasy MMO that they don't get casters. I really don;t like that idea. Of course agents get the smuggler's cover system, its only fitting a republic class gets the agent's stealth ability.
Comment by Deidare made on 11/16/09 5:17:56 PM
True, True. But if it’s an aspect you want so dearly and the republic didn't have stealth, then hey, you'd have empire. I see what you’re saying, but what I’m getting at is that no class should be "mirrored". So I'm really trying to get at as long has the Smugglers stealth system is tweaked and is a little different then the Agents, in the way of RP and play, then I think it could happen.

Poll remains open from our side, perhaps a reload is required?
Comment by Deidare made on 11/14/09 9:27:10 PM
Well i think the imperial agent will be the only stealth class, because just like WoW, rouge was the only stealthy. However, unlike WoW each side has its own specific classes. Sort of like warhammer. Except on the game the classes mirrored eachother so no one would complain about the other sides classes being too OP. On swtor I think that the fact that they won't have mirror classes will reduce the complants about classes needing to be nerfed. It'll put alittle difference between factions.

However I do think that the "mirror" classes in swtor might in fact have some generic moves similar to one another, if any similar moves at all. So I do beileve that stealth will be an Agent only ability. I also think that all classes will have different moves, and abilities. As I said before, if they'd have an similarities to the opposing factions "mirrior" class, it wouldn't be many. I'm hoping that this game wont end up like warhammer, and that classes "mirror" eachother, every class should have their own specialities.
Comment by chronium made on 11/15/09 8:32:49 AM
There is a bit of a problem with your thinking since Druids could also stealth in WoW and both rogues and druids are playable on both factions.
Comment by Deidare made on 11/15/09 1:19:28 PM
Once again, druids played mutiple rolls, have we seen or been told a class that can both tank, stealth, heal, and do ranged dps? I don't think so, and i doubt Bioware will do that. Note I also I HOPE Bioware doesn't implement a mirror class set up, it quite franckly wouldn't be that interested. Now if they did something like wow with each different class, but slightly similar, that'd be fine. Just no druids please, because really sense when have
druids not been OP? I don't want something like that in swtor.

So my mirror class objection is more out of preferance, and want. However its still logical that each class would be different, like as said before, they'd only have slight similarities, like WoW classes. Paladin-warrior I mean they're similar, but also totally different. Rouge-druid both can stealth, but both are still totally different. Thats what I'm trying to say, and no hard feelings either, I'm just stating what I think.
Comment by homestarrunner made on 11/14/09 6:08:38 PM
i hope its the only class. the less stealth the better. but as far as will it be the only class, i have no idea. there must be something on the republic side to balence it out a bit. which would mean a different republic class that uses stealth? i was hoping it would be a pilot (wedge antilles, pilot luke, etc.) or a commander (akbar, grevious, etc.), but i guess we will just have to wait and see.
Comment by cwjedi made on 11/14/09 5:17:47 PM
Yer, i totally agree with Pinio's statement about the steal clothes/disguise ability. That would also be incredblely iconic, mirroring what han and luke did on the first death star, stealing the stormtrooper uniforms. But this ability would have alot more limits than the Agent's sleath, but it would be very fun to play.
But to answer the poll question, i say no, becuase i think it would debalance the factions a little too much, even thougth all the classes are going to be 'unique'.
Comment by Pinio made on 11/14/09 6:53:25 PM
This ability has some limits, but also some advantages over stealth because smuggler can interact with opponents and make some diversion in non lethal way. Agent can only walk unseen but at any time, smugller only if find clothes but can interact :) Pluses and minuses.
Comment by homestarrunner made on 11/14/09 6:12:56 PM
lol that is a great idea.

sith trooper: "hey, agent bob, i thought you were on lunch break"

smuggler: **pulls out gun and fries sith trooper**

those sith will never know what hit them
Comment by Pinio made on 11/14/09 6:49:21 PM
Yes. It's Han's way in some occasions. Very good example of how it could looks.
Comment by chronium made on 11/14/09 5:58:54 PM
well it could be holographic disguises instead of stealing uniforms.
Comment by Pinio made on 11/14/09 4:45:23 PM
My answer is no. Because we can expect, something compare to agent, you know some kind of symmetry not strictly mirror. It would be unnatural if on 8 classes only one can move unseen. IMO smuggler could has something like stealth ability. I know that smuggler is a little rowdy, romantic hero, but not always looking for audience. Han often used cover and stealth to attain his targets.

Maybe good way to give to this class stealth is dress for someone. Get clothes from dead body, or steal them from somewhere... Remember that smuggler is smuggling class, so he/she can't do this only by go cover to cover. IMO it fit good to this class even if we base only on movies like I wrote several posts below.
Comment by Deidare made on 11/14/09 9:33:28 PM
I agree with what your saying, in a way. It makes sense that the smuggler might get something like a "disguise" ability. But its still would be different from an Agent's. The Agent would go invisible, where as a smuggler would run around in imperial disguse. The Agent would be completely invisible to enemy players, but the smuggler would be visible, but would apear to be on the enemy players side. It makes sense, and could happen, but I wouldn't want it to. I think that every class needs their own thing. However other people think differently, and thats fine, its just my way of thinking.
Comment by Pinio made on 11/15/09 5:35:15 AM
And this is different ability. It's something like stealth, but unique in other way :)

Comment by Remlish made on 11/14/09 3:41:45 PM
I think that there will be a Republic Mercenary class to go up against the Bounty Hunter and it will use the Stealth Belt ala KOTOR's Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders seen in both games.

In my opinion Republic Trooper is shown as a Heavy Armor class and Bounty Hunter is shown as a Medium Armor class so with that logic we should expect to see a Republic Medium Armor class and an Empire Heavy Armor class.
Comment by PercMerc made on 11/14/09 7:56:17 PM
I still can't help but to wonder if the Mandalorian could fill that heavy armor Sith slot. They were featured pretty heavily in the timeline entry and all of the timeline entries featuring "classes" have come true, smugglers, Jedi Knights, and Imperial Agents. I think Bioware put that timeline entry out early to throw us off. But who knows, it's all speculation at this point anyways.
Comment by Roflmywaffles made on 11/14/09 2:20:40 PM
I dont think that the agent would be the only one.Personally this is just a guess but i think the next class will be the bothan spy for the Republic. I know its a big assumption but thats my prediction.
Comment by homestarrunner made on 11/14/09 6:16:05 PM
i dont understand. why do people think bothans, mandalorians, jawas, and droids will be playable classes? they are races, not classes. but the possibility of a spy, who knows really. i guess thats possible, but what characters would that represent?
Comment by cwjedi made on 11/14/09 6:49:09 PM
Liea most probably. if it happens.
Comment by Pinio made on 11/14/09 6:59:17 PM
Probably one of the most iconic hero in spy class :) but in other way than imperial agent. She is spy, but has official status: senator, princes, jedi knight - always recognisable in public sittuations, but has second face. Silent, stealth and lethal if she needed. There are very promising and different quest types for class like this.
Comment by Remlish made on 11/14/09 3:45:25 PM
Bothan Spy is too limiting because Bothans are a very private race, to keep with lore the player would have to be a Bothan.
Comment by chronium made on 11/14/09 1:38:49 PM
Well considering that a lot of the the Imperial Agents abilities is a mix of the Bounty Hunters darts and the Smugglers cover system, that I would not be surprised at all if Bioware gives the stealth ability to the unannounced Republic class.
Comment by PercMerc made on 11/14/09 12:31:15 PM
Of the classes they've announced so far I can't see them giving stealth to anyone else. They could always announce new classes and change my mind. But for now I don't see the smugglers using stealth.
Comment by zechio made on 11/14/09 12:46:11 PM
While I agree that I don't really see smugglers as the stealth type ( come on, han gets the attention of everyone within 20 miles...and likes it ), but I can not see them giving stealth to the Sith Empire, but not to the Republic. Someone on the republic side will get stealth.
Comment by PercMerc made on 11/14/09 7:51:37 PM
I just don't think that BW has to give it to both factions. They can balance it without it having to be equivalent on each side.
Comment by chronium made on 11/15/09 8:36:01 AM
How do you expect that to happen?
Comment by PercMerc made on 11/16/09 6:37:06 PM
Same way as other MMOs have. Stealth detection. And give something else just as cool only to Republic side. Plus we don't really know the details on the stealth yet anyways. Could be that it's not going to play as big a role for the Agent as it does in other MMOs. Their combat obviously doesn't depend on it like it does for rogues in WOW. Look at all the other abilities they've got that don't use the stealth.
Comment by Pinio made on 11/14/09 4:24:00 PM
But he can go into stealth if he need it, so it would fit to lore even if we base only on movies.
