The Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor class forums are now online. The existence of these forums will finally put to rest the claim of them being a hoax.

You can find their respective class forums here.

Update: Sean's Update regarding the Consular and Inquisitor -
Fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic will be in for a treat this week Several magazines in North America and Europe will have articles that not only talk about The Old Republic but also reveal our final two classes: the Jedi Consular and the Sith Inquisitor

We will be updating the HoloNet with information about both of these in December, but in the meantime, feel free to participate in discussions within the class areas for both the Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor.

I usually try to read all comments before put some mine, but I've been absent several days, so sorry if repeat some ideas :)

Primo - I was quite disappointed for 4 force senisitive classes. I wrote before, that this might looks unnatural, and make some frustration for someone who want more realistic game. There was something about lore etc. But now this complaint is pointless, because BW present us with a fait accompli. So...

Secundo - when I saw how new classes look then try to find good points. Simply the best in this for me is that those classes are what I expected from Jedi and Sith. Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior are something like regular soldiers. Yes they are well trained, good in combat, great with force using. But when new classes revealed, I realized that they way are much more force-user way. Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior are good in tools (lightsaber, combat force powers) but real comprehension (as good as it can be) of Force belong to Consular. Sith are lame they are lost on the path of the Force ;) But I realy don't want to specially distinguish Jedi and Sith from conventional perspective.

My dream is: if BW make classes based game (there are worse solutions) and there are 4 force-users (nooo...) maybe those two newest are better than others. I mean they could be harder to progress, have low HP or something what make them balanced, but in game world they must rulez :D And of course have all powers like Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior, combat too.

How I can be heroic Jedi when first class is combat oriented second seems to be cast type. Best of Jedi and Sith are both of them.

Thats only me - two links: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=91937 , http://www.starwarsmmo.net/news/pc-games-magazine-reveals-jedi-consular-and-sith-inquisitor/ in this second there are two scans from this german magazine.

I know that first of them I show in another comment, ahh and what's with DH, starwarsmmo.net is usually based on DH news and now they are first ;) Or I missed something.

We're under embargo and can't comment. Starwarsmmo.net is not. Believe me Dec 3rd will be huge.

Once again. I find this: http://www.starwarsmmo.net/news/pc-games-interview-with-james-ohlen/ and Ohlen talks about lift and throw abilities yeah :D

Ahh... too late to edit. I find that wrote not clearly about Force comprehension. In post before I point what was my first impression. Understanding of Force is like any other - come from different direction - combat, meditation, sense of humour, pain... etc. So from this point of view Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior have same right to force greatness as newest classes. But Consular and Inquisitor better looks :D And Jedi has cool hat :p Probably in game they have powers which hit more precisely in my preferences. I have little hope that in game we can force lift many objects and freely move them and throw :)

There are realy something happened since BW speed up with announcements. Yep its very interesting way like it was pointed here: http://darthhater.com/2009/11/22/getting-to-the-second-pillar/

I just hope BW will make story for Jedi Knight / Consular and Sith Warrior / Inquisitor completely different. I guess you DH guys didn't had a chance to speak bout that? O.O

Comment by Panzzer made on November 24th, 2009 at 3:18pm
BW has said that all classes will have non-conflicting story lines. That means no quest repeats

I'm kind of torn now, I was hoping for only 1 force using class on each side with a lot of options in the talent trees to customize them so that if you wanted to be a healer or a tank or a dps you could do so all from the same force class. Now it looks like the sith warrior class will be much more limited in choice. On a personal note, I usually either play a dps warrior type class or the 'warlock' type class. If the Inquisitor has a warlock type spec, I might try that first. Who knows...

Comment by rog made on November 24th, 2009 at 3:28am
I really hoped there wouldn't be a class with a "healing specialization." The community won't accept an "off-spec" if the Consular is the ONLY healer in the Republic faction, thus forcing those players to heal if they wish to see content. This was Blizzard's mistake with hybrids in Vanilla WoW (which took YEARS to overcome) and Bioware is repeating it. I'd bet a lot of Consulars will reroll once groups deny them entrance unless they spec for healing.

Comment by Deidare made on November 25th, 2009 at 11:01am
Technically you’re not forced to heal, but because you can't switch specs in this game, once you go healer you can't go back. From what the PC gamer’s interview said at least, so if you do want to "see content" and go healer you can't go back. This makes the situation seem worse than what WoW had in its beginning years.

Comment by rog made on November 25th, 2009 at 5:32pm
It really does, unfortunately. I sincerely hope that "spec locks" aren't the their implementation. They'll lose tons of players if rerolling is the only option to fix mistakes.

Comment by Qpac made on November 23rd, 2009 at 11:32pm
Start the "LF1M Healer Spec Consular" spam now.

All in all I think this was the right direction to go and lets all face it, If Bioware and Star Wars had a baby, who would not pick it for their dodge ball team.

Comment by snafu made on November 24th, 2009 at 2:16am
This is definitely the logical assumption, but it will be interesting to see how the game plays and what other methods there are of damage avoidance. With so many cc's and characters that are seemingly capable of mitigating damage on their own, the need for healers may not be as pronounced as in other mmos and fantasy games.

Comment by Deidare made on November 25th, 2009 at 11:04am
Yeah I agree Snafu, the excessive amount of CC seems to make the need for healers seem a little less important. However you'll still might need a healer no doubt, but with only one healer class it makes looking for a healer an obvious option, and a slim choice. How many healers would there be exactly? And what if you needed five for a raid? We'll just have to see how it plays out.

The Jedi Consulars have long been known for their devotion to silly hats.

I'd hate to say, Its really burning a hole in me right now, but that Sith Inquisitor looks pretty pimp. Yep I said it, hell my main was a healer in warhammer and the both these classes are the obvious healers, another reason why it’s going to become a problem because so many noobs will roll healers and not even know it. Now talent will happen, thus meaning they'll also be able to dps likely, but even then they won't realize how to spec correctly and fail at dps. Same for Jedi knight and sith warrior. They're going to end up being the tank classes, and well, I mean when you first play an MMO tanking is the hardest aspect to grasp. That is, when you hit endgame raid content. I'll say it once more, I don't think another Force class is a horrible thing, but it certainly wasn't the best, heck as I said before I might even switch to the sith inquisitor

Comment by indu.san made on November 23rd, 2009 at 8:59pm
well if you are right, maybe it won't be so hard to find a tank or healer. personally I think it wont make a huge difference in the amount of dps to support specs as compared to current games.

I think what may make that difference though is how companion characters function.

Comment by Deidare made on November 23rd, 2009 at 9:34pm
Yes, which is why I think companion characters would most likely be for solo play only. Namely meaning when you would enter a dungeon or a raid, or battle ground they'd disappear. It makes sense, because having companion characters in a large scale BG or raid would just get way out of hand. But then on the other hand there’s always open world pvp which if you could use you companions out of instances, they'd help you out there. So why not in BGs? And dungeons are small scale raids, so companions could easily work there. It’s hard to tell at this point, we just have to wait and see. And I hope they get companions to work out in raids and BGs somehow, but if they don't, well I won't mind not having my companion for an hour or two. :P

Comment by PercMerc made on November 24th, 2009 at 3:03pm
I think they've confirmed that companions went into flashpoints with you.

Comment by Deidare made on November 25th, 2009 at 6:04pm
@-PerMerc: Yes I know there may or may not be raids, I'm aware of that, it’s not like I’m stuck in a constant state that "every MMO must be WoW!". I said that if there were raids and BGs having companions in large scale battles would seem unlikely. And no hard feelings bro, :P were all just waiting to see how this unfolds.

Comment by PercMerc made on November 25th, 2009 at 4:49pm
Deidare, you're assuming that there will be large 25 or 40 man raids in TOR because there are/were in WOW. We don't know anything about raiding yet. All we know is that there are flashpoints.

Comment by Deidare made on November 25th, 2009 at 10:58am
Hmm good point. However they said in the "flashpoints" or dungeons, which only hold up to about 6 players. I'm talking about raids, and full scale BGs, which hold a lot more players. I think if BW in corporate those, that companion characters wouldn't enter, because that’s about 25 people. And with 25 companion’s characters, everything would be crazy. I never doubted that you'd be able to bring them into dungeons though, just raids and BGs are a different story.

Well, at least the 2FU vs. 4FU debate can hopefully close… only to be taken over by the “I told you so!” and “I was right, you were wrong” threads (not to mention the outcry of the Jedi Knight to be called Guardian posts and "Will you quit over this reveal?"!!!). *sigh*

I’m curious now to see the skills and specs you can take as a Force user. For me, I’m honestly not sure what Jedi to pick as I really enjoy strong cc abilities and Force powers but do not want to be the spam healer at the back of the group (yeah, I'm a Sentinel supporter hehe). I feel that rather than rolling in as a ‘Jedi’ and developing skills and play style as I go I’m going to have to research and read up on all the available powers so I don’t get stuck in the wrong role, or even story.

My 3 main questions now with the confirmation of all the 8 TOR classes would be:

1) Will the Smuggler also have access to stealth like the Agent or more anti-stealth capabilities to counter them? I want to play a Smuggler for the 'Han' story, but boy have they made the ‘mirror’ Agent damn tempting! ;-]

2) Does the Sith Inquisitor have a healing talent tree spec like the Consular has been confirmed to have (out of two spec directions) or are they going down a Warlock style drain enemy health type system?

3) Will playing a non healing Consular be a problem with people now spamming “LF LS Consular healer” ie creating a bias and expectation of what they are most going to be used/requested for? I wonder if you can respec back and forth at end game, hmmm…

hb

Comment by Deidare made on November 23rd, 2009 at 7:44pm
@-Heybarn: Well for one, I think the smuggler might get some form of a stealth system, now whether it'll be a "stealth belt" the Agent probably wont happen, he'll probably stealth, but with a different mechanic behind it.

Also I think the inquisitor would healer, because hello, what sith class looks like it could heal right now? None, so I believe the Inquisitor will have a warlock fell and use the style to somehow be able to heal. It makes sense that the inquisitor would heal too, If you think about it. Jedi mirrors sith, both of them will tank. Trooper mirrors BH (as heavy armor ranged dps) both will dps. Smuggler mirrors Agent, both are stealthy like class that is ranged dps, but relies more on gadgets. So both the consular and inquisitor are likely to heal.

And for your third question I think there would be a problem, because consular and inquisitor are the only healers for their sides, that means there will be a major shortage of healing. MAJOR. Because I mean first off most of the "noobs" will probably swarm to Jedi knight and sith warrior, now knowing that the consular and inquisitor are suppose to be "healers". And all the non noobs will roll the other two non force classes. However that’s not saying some people won’t wanna heal, but most non noobs who'd roll the class would probably want to take up the classes dps roll over heal.

I was ready to be the Imperial Agent, and told myself I'd NEVER become an over-used force user, and I'd hate it if there were 4 force users ... but that Sith Inquisitor brings out the first excitement I ever felt for Star Wars. Far more excitement than the Imperial Agent.

I hate myself for this ... but I'm gonna be a force user. :o
