New Star Wars Game to be Announced During VGAs

Brainiac9000, one of our commenters, recently informed us that a new Star Wars video game will be announced during the 2009 Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 12th. Kotaku corroborated this news and provided a link to the Gametrailers.com teaser video. Although probably not related to Star Wars: The Old Republic, save for the clips of the "Deceived" trailer, this should be interesting news to any Star Wars fans out there.

It's not what I'm hoping for...but from the little information available I'm guessing it's a lightsaber related game (TFU/JA style).

First, there seems to be a clear focus on lightsaber combat in the Gametrailers teaser. Second, the "M" rating could suggest a dismemberment feature, since it's considered Blood and Gore ("mutilation of body parts") and thus would require such a rating (source: http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp).

Again, just a guess.

Cheers

Couldn't guess to be honest, I think it could be various things. There isn't really any New Republic games out there (Jedi Knight games are the only two aren't they), but tbh I would LOVE a battlefront 3. I'm still kinda annoyed that they put elite squadron on DS and PSP :| I was looking forward to space/land battles in one, and they put it on hand-helds lol :/

I'm putting my money on Battlefront 3. Earlier this year, there was about 6 minutes of leaked footage from Battlefront 3. I believe the footage is still on Youtube. The game is just not completed, or they stopped production on it. I forgot why they stopped working on it, I think it was about money or something. We're all hoping it's KOTOR 3 though. It would make so much sense for them to make it. Besides evryone wanting it, it would also complete the KOTOR trilogy, as well as bridge the gap between KOTOR 2 and The Old Republic. The perfect villain for KOTOR 3 would be the Sith Emperor from the decieved trailer. According to what I heard, he is actually thousands of years old, so it would be canon for him to be in KOTOR 3. A battle between him and Revan would be awesome.

They quit working on Battlefront 3 because the company making it went out of business. The way things work behind the scenes means somebody else may have picked up on what was started.

But Sith from deceived trailer is not the emperor. Of course, there is no clear evidence who is he, but emperor probably doesn't take part in regular actions ;)

That video makes me think an Episode VII game :P

A game based on "Heir to the Empire", the first book in the Thrawn Trilogy that is pretty much considered the sequel trilogy by all SW nerds(with HttE as Episode 7 by extension)? I wouldn't mind that as a game.

I wouldn't mind anything to be honnest, but you know, just don't make it suck. I'd pefer Yuuzhan Vong involved game more though.

I watched teaser several times :D I noticed, that they show fragments from different sources: TFU, TOR, and maybe something else, but I don't know. But interesting is that the talk is all about Luke Skywalker, nothing else (or I dont understand all beacuse he speaks fast) hmm.

1 - concentrate on Luke who rulez
2 - we know about this
3 - we dont know whats next

1+2+3=something in post movies timeline - new Jedi Knight or after? :D

If I understand all well, then maybe maybe... :) Hope. I will be pleased if someone could write what he say about knowledge of the Force. Sometimes I feel mental pain when must work with my bad english.

I just remembered how much I'd love a new Jedi Knight game ...

*cradles Battlefront 3 in arms, crying softly*

I think he said "you have a stronger knowledge of the force than Yoda himself..."

All of those statements appear to be just framing the level of geek-ness and that despite what we know, will still be blown away. Hehe.

Comment by Pinio made on November 25th, 2009 at 7:14pm
@Lethality - is it possible that: "your own family and have a stronger..." so it can point on Lukes knowledge?

Comment by Pinio made on November 27th, 2009 at 7:59pm
Yep. Bad idea ;( There is "have" no "has". But it will be awesome if we will can play as Luke in post legacy time period :D

Comment by Pinio made on November 25th, 2009 at 6:48pm
We know a lot, but even geeks can't make precise statement in many subjects e.g. most powerful force user ;) Look on official Star Wars forum - more than 24 thousand post in three parts. Yeah maybe there are some agreement that Luke is ultimate force user, but always are many opposites.

No, no, no! 24000 post and so many still dont believe that Luke and anyone else :p Its like 2+2=4 ;)

But here is no place for such debate. I mean DH banned this if it go to far :D

Amen to that, every time a new star wars game is stuck in our faces, despite what we know, were still incredibly impressed. But that’s just Lucas Arts for yeah ;) (Even if some of the recent star wars titles weren't that great.

It could be the rumored new casual MMO from Sony Online Entertainment...

Comment by PurpleCliff made on November 25th, 2009 at 7:07pm
I hope that one is 'Sandbox'-ish. TOR is kinda a non-sandbox-ish MMO, and SOE have done quite a bit of Sandbox stuff in the past.

I was under the impression that had already been "announced", but now that you mention it that is a possibility

Comment by Lethality made on November 25th, 2009 at 6:13pm
Eh, my bad. It does definitely say video game in the description.

Comment by Lethality made on November 25th, 2009 at 6:12pm
Ya, I don't think it has been officially announced yet unless I missed it. I am wondering though, even though it's a video game awards show, if maybe they're not announcing a game at all.. maybe the live action TV series, etc?

I would love for Lucas Arts to return doing SW flight sims, but it most likely is not the type of game that would be revealed. My best guess would be The Force Unleashed 2 I would agree to Battlefront 3 as well if it had more of a story driven single player component but if it is still just a pvp style game then I highly doubt it would be the VGA announcement.

Like I said in the other topic, I'm hoping to God it's Battlefront 3. If it can have even 1/10th of the stuff Free Radical had planned, it'd easily be a worthy successor to SWBF2. And I know this is asking for a bit much, but I'd sacrifice my firstborn if it had EU battles. Give me some NJO battles with the Vong. I've always wanted to dogfight with coralskippers in space, or fight in epic ground battles against the Vong. Their organic technology would make for some creative battles, and they'd look good using all the latest next-gen graphics and tricks(like the stuff from The Force Unleashed).

Comment by Deidare made on November 25th, 2009 at 5:46pm
Agreed, I've loved all the battle front (well maybe the first psp battle front wasn't that fun..). And I'd take any star wars game I can get my hand. I think your also right, if they incorporated the next gen props the game would be sweet. I'd love to play in all kinds of different timeline wars and stories, and multiplayer would be sweet! If they'd make this one first person capable too (like MW2's 3rd person and 1st) that would be awesome. I mean the 3rd person was cool for the Ps2 but now we need a first person. That game would make my day.

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on November 25th, 2009 at 5:51pm
Well SWBF2 had a toggle between first and third person, at least on PC(I'm sure console had it too), so I don't know what you meant about being first person capable since SWBF2 was already first person capable. I use first person with scope to get better aiming when I snipe.

Comment by Deidare made on November 25th, 2009 at 6:38pm
Yeah it did, but my copy must have been an early release because I can't toggle at all, :( Gues that means I should buy a new game!

For me something new, of course Expanded Universe (leave movies alone) because Force have to be show properly no in stereotype, artificialy way. It will be great if time period is place somewhere at least NJO series and after. Why not before, because Jedi can’t marry ;(. Seriously Luke made a lot of changes about what is mean to be a Jedi. I don’t want game to interfere with novels and comics, so the time maybe better after Legacy comics. Game should have physical universe – full (at least) classical physics world with hyperspace houndred of thousend planets any creature which isn’t control by human (yes mmo) is drive by best AI – you know full simulation, no classes, player evolves in natural way (e.g. training). Ahh and if someone tell me that isn’t possible technically, to make thousends of planet go for example to http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php . If non professional developers can do something with that so imagine what can do those biggers ;) And don’t forget that procedural programming isn’t only technology which people can use, there are many to combine. Please try to experiment professional developers :D

Thats one of my dreams :D

I don't know that I can post twice the same thing. I wrote it before DH make this news so... If moderators hear me and that not interfere with theirs rules - please delete it from previous place.

I hope it's gonna be a new x-wing simulator or something.

Comment by Xavier made on November 26th, 2009 at 1:55am
That is a definite possibility. A Lucas Arts producer hinted as such this summer at either E3, ComiCon or PAX (forget which) to G4TV. When asked if; "We would see a return to an X-Wing/TIE type game?" The producer's response was; "We don't have anything to announce now, but we will soon."

Going off of that I am hoping it is something like Star Wars: Fleet Commander.
You get your xwing simulations going on, but you also get your capital ships. I want a game with space combat like the opening scene of Episode III.

Fire a broadside....in space!

OMG.... you just invented the one game I would ditch TOR for lol ;-)

Comment by Deidare made on November 25th, 2009 at 5:49pm
LOL Noooo don’t do it Dover, lol. Personally I’d take an MMO over just a space battle game. But if they'd make it battle front style and have space combat and land, I totally would play that game, but they'd have to make it 1st person at least! 3rd's fine, but 1st preferably!
