Friday Update: Sith Inquisitor Holonet
by Zenkei
, posted December 11th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
The Sith Inquisitor Holonet is now officially live after a short delay. As Sean posted the following in the Star Wars: The Old Republic official forums today:

The history of the Sith Empire is fraught with scheming politics and dark secrets' the lifeblood of the Sith Inquisitor. Treachery hides around every corner in the Empire's dark corridors, and survival depends on an individual's natural cunning and the will to manipulate and defeat enemies and allies alike. The Inquisitor experiments with forbidden powers to not only survive in this cutthroat environment, but to excel and seize authority.

Access the latest HoloNet entry now to see a full profile of the Sith Inquisitor, including footage displaying the destructive powers of the dark side Also, be sure to visit the Media section to get downloadable screenshots, concepts, and wallpapers

If you are looking for more information on the Sith Inquisitor, there is our article covering our hands on time with the class as well as a speculative piece regarding a little class controversy.

Update: Next week is a planet reveal according to the Star Wars: The Old Republic newsletter -

There are some clues to think that planet from SI screenshots is Balmorra, compare this two: http://www.swtor.com/media/screens/sith-inquisitor and http://www.swtor.com/media/screens/balmorra-2 . Rocks looks quite different, but nearly all structeres are same and at same places :D

My vote for the new planet goes to Dantooine or Nar Shaddaa :)

I'd say 80/20 Geonosis over Tatooine for a couple of reasons.

1) The Geonosis Arena - PVP arena anyone?
2) Braden mentioned it in the Bounty Hunter demo, it's mentioned several times in the timeline shorts.
3) It's been showing up in Clone Wars a lot, so its a draw for "current/new" SW fans.
4) With the exception of Korriban, all of the worlds in the Holonet have not been in KotoR before.
5) Beyond the first four worlds, all of the worlds in the Holonet are populous and/or contested planets. The starting four planets seem to slant more to that side's specific faction as "starter/lowbie" areas.

Geonosis is the home of an Arena, presumably factory complexes, and it's the homeworld of the Geonosian species. Tatooine... not so much. The only time when people seem to want to go to Tatooine it's either to hideout (Obi-wan, Han, Jabba) or there's someone or something there (Star Map, Anakin's Mother, anybody hiding out). Tatooine's nice if you want to relive some of the movies, but it's not really connected to the rest of Galaxy. Also it doesn't help Tatooine's case when Geonosis is right next door.

I seriously doubt we'll have both Tatooine and Geonosis, the terrain's too similar although Geonosis is more rocky than sandy.

Was the Petranaki Arena around in this time? 3500 years is a long time, there could be battle arenas on Tat in this era. What story reason would they have for having Geonosis? Balance says it'd have to be an Empire world, but what would the Empire use Geonosis for?

I have to agree with Raithnor, even though the picture art says otherwise. However it is just a picture, but Tatooine is more of a casual planet, not much activity. During this time era however BW and LA could through war onto the planet, give it some kind of crisis that would incorporate it into the game. I still don't doubt Geonosis. The Empire has had strong ties with the geonosians for their technology, and have used their gladiator arenas for their own power manipulation. The empire has already been mentioned to be active on Geonosis, and they could use more false treaties to their advantage in using the geonosians for their weapons and droids. And who knows, some of the geonosians themselves might have been involved in the manipulation of the gladiator games. And having some kind of arena system on this planet would make a lot of sense. Adding it to the Empire, however the only drawback is that it looks a lot similar to Korriban, their both bare and covered in red dust. Tatooine, I believe could still be in the picture for a neutral, and maybe (although mostly unlikely) an Empire planet.

From the timeline entry "The Return of the Mandalorians", 8 years before the Treaty of Coruscant:

"In the arenas of Geonosis - a young gladiator had risen to prominence, calling himself the new ‘Mandalore’ - a title unclaimed for centuries - a title reserved for the greatest warrior in the galaxy—a warrior worthy to lead the Mandalorians."

The sith inquisitors stun lightning as shown in the holonet personally i think is op but that being said i know know its way to far to judge. All classes reavealed yay :D.plaent looks like tatooine. The flags may represent the pod race as seen in starwars episode 1.
but thats a guess...

Every ability for every class in the holonet kill enemies in one shot. This game is going to be stupid because everyone dies after one attack. PvP fights are going to last like 2 seconds cause everyone will die so fast. There is no way this game is going to be fun with 8 super overpowered classes one-shotting everything.

Snafu, it's called cinematic flair. How exciting would these videos be if they showed the Inquisitor taking 2 minutes to kill his targets? You have to remember people's attention spans when pre-launch hyping a game like this.

If you watch the gameplay videos, you'll see it takes multiple hits for the most part...and this is against lower level, weak NPCs. Each person is roughly 3-4 times more powerful than an on level NPC. In pvp however, you'de be equally powerful. There is a big diff between the HP of NPCs and Players, probably same with armor, evade, block, etc as well. I'm betting a 1v1 of 2 dps classes without any kind of heals would be a minute plus.

So, relax:) Once you have played the game, and found whichever class is "OP" ( balance is impossible, so there will be one.. ), then feel free to voice some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

Cheers!

Lately the reveals have showed that the "first thought" choises are what Bioware's going with to keep things straight forward. I think your guess is as good as mine and it's fairly 1+1 to state it'll be Tatooine.

Comment by Roflmywaffles made on December 12th, 2009 at 6:03pm
It has to be.That planet plays a key roll in the Starwars movies as well as games.I think the flags just give it away, but im going to slap my self if it isn't.

First thing that came to mind is: "Tatooine" for that next planet reveal.

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on December 11th, 2009 at 6:56pm
Dang, can't edit my post now, didn't see the newsletter thing when I posted. The artwork does look like Tatooine. I can't think of many worlds that look like Tatooine, so the artwork kinda rules out other ideas.

Comment by Deidare made on December 12th, 2009 at 12:08am
Either way the Empire needs a couple more planets, another "Deserted", and populace one would balance them out with the Republic. And that is undoubtedly Tatooine. I know no other desert planets that have a color quite like Tatooine. And Fedaykin, not only do those look like flags for a podrace, but their also next to what appears to be a podrace stadium, or starting area. It really looks like Tatooine. I'll be amazed if It turns out to be something else.

Comment by Fedaykin made on December 11th, 2009 at 6:54pm
Oh I have no idea if it'll be Tatooine. Just the first thing that came to mind.

Sand Tatooine. No facts. Just a .2 second thought.

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on December 11th, 2009 at 6:46pm
I really think TOR won't have Tatooine or any of the other planets that were in SWG. 7 planets and none of them have been from SWG. KotOR said that Anchorhead is regularly covered up by the sands for centuries at a time, so there's no saying for sure if Tatooine is even settled during TOR.

But I agree that we need to see some desolate worlds. All we have is Korriban, so it'd be nice to see another like that. I'd really like a world like Dathomir, with an atmosphere that just seeps a feeling of dread into your soul. Lots of fog, very desolate, something like that. Which TOR-era planet would fit that?

Comment by Fedaykin made on December 11th, 2009 at 6:56pm
Oh Tatooine popped up 300 years before TOR in KOTOR 1 - Czerka Company was leaving though, they found ore but it wasn't of very good quality.

Comment by Fedaykin made on December 11th, 2009 at 7:01pm
Oh I have no idea sorry, never heard that it was covered in sand. I just figured: Tatooine was in KOTOR, Tatooine is in Star Wars the movies 1 to 6 - heck it's probably been populated in between the bunch.

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on December 11th, 2009 at 6:58pm
Didn't they say Anchorhead was swallowed up by the sands shortly after Czerka left Tatooine shortly after KotOR? Either way, it'd be easy to retcon it and give us a settlement. I wouldn't object to Anchorhead as the main settlement on Tatooine, after all the other games focus on Mos Eisley(and Espa to a lesser extent).

So yeah, I'm open to the idea now.

Comment by zechio made on December 11th, 2009 at 9:03pm
It doesn't even have to be 1 of the cities really. Perhaps the sith and jedi have just sent out expeditions searching for something that revan might have left there, etc.

I think it would be cool to see tatooine with anchorhead/Mos Eisley and Mos Espa all mostly buried in sand.

it could also be geonosis, but those things that look like flagpoles in the distance may prove otherwise...

I really don't know what class I'm going to role, I was thinking SI. But now I think I'm going to roll something else. I will wait for more info to come out, but I wasn't blown away with this class. But will see.

I really like how the force whirlwind has been turned into a force-lightning whirlwind (so that it feels more dooku/palpatine-ish). I still can't get over how 'raw' and Star Wars IV / V / VI the pewpew sounds and blocking sounds feel. Stuff really explodes on impact instead of "tidily bouncing back". It feels very unrefined and.. well I can't express it other than 'raw'. I really love that approach.

I think I could just sit down and watch a Sith or Jedi block attacks for a while.. (and then probably roast the bloated glowstick sissy in good Bounty Hunter fashion).

Can't help but think: Double Light Saber = Wizard's staff in the context of the Sith Inquisitor. (Also to a degree, the Jedi Consular)

From a Multiple Person/Multiple Blaster Deflection standpoint I could see the benefit of a DLS.

Really would like to see info on Weapons and Crafting to see how much is possible to improve a lightsaber. I could see the Jedi/Sith crafting better and better sabers as they increase in level as well as "Loot drops". Just as I could see the other classes creating/improving their preferred weapon type of choice.

How does Dragon Age: Origins handle the whole 2-handed weapon vs. 2 1-Handed Weapons issue?

Comment by snafu made on December 11th, 2009 at 7:46pm
I hope this answers your question, but DA:O has pretty standard implementation of 1H vs. 2H. If you replace a 1H with two equivalent 2-handers, the damage from both one-handers combined is higher than the 2-hander, but you miss a lot more so that over the duration of a fight the dps is roughly the same (assuming all you did was auto-attack).

I like the picture of all 4 Empire classes working together to take down foes. It really gives me a big picture of how everyone works. You got the Agent and Inquisitor at the back, the Warrior up front in the thick of it, and the BH in the air. I'd really like to see a similar picture of the Republic classes working together so we can get a similar visual idea of their roles. Like does the Trooper sit at the back and attack with his gun, or is he up front in the thick of it with his heavy armor?

Comment by snafu made on December 11th, 2009 at 7:49pm
Want to know how the republic classes work together?

You have the Jedi Knight arguing with a bad guy in the front line, trying to convince him to put away his weapon. The trooper is sitting around waiting for someone to give him orders. The consular is still on the spaceship meditating, and the Smuggler is hiding in a cargo hold somewhere.

Haha, if you through in a Republic senator you have the whole Republic coral. And what a team that is... a good team of course. (*cough cough*)

To be completely honest, i didn't think i was going to see the class roster full in this year. Makes you wonder what other surprises they have in store for us.
In any event, the Inquisitor looks very nice, really looking forward to see him in action.
You also have to apreciate the unique expression in the character's face. All that dark energy certainly looks draining for the Inquisitor.

Yeah JediCos, BW has surprised me with their information release, I figured we'd see all the classes at least after Christmas, and never thought we'd get to see this much so fast. It makes me wonder when they’re going to release the beta. And then the game, which I predict at this rate, will come before and shortly after Christmas of last year. Gotta bet with my friends on that one.
