Holonet Dissection
by sado
, posted April 7th, 2010 at 9:52 AM
Here at Darth Hater we are constantly examining any media released for Star Wars: The Old Republic. The Holonet, in particular, quickly became one of our most valued resources in this endeavor. Framed by the ever important fourth pillar, each new release on the official site slowly increases our knowledge of the people and places we will encounter when players finally get their hands on the game. In light of the recent addition of a biographies section, we thought it might be a good idea to look back over the Holonet and find all the people we have been introduced to over the past year and a half.

Note: This article will be updated over time as we include new items to the dissection.

Classes Section

The classes section contains a bevy of information about the gameplay we will encounter in The Old Republic, however the are a few hidden gems about the people and things we will encounter as players. The Aurbesh scattered throughout the different class pages contain names that will almost certainly come to play for anyone choosing the following classes.

Smuggler "Wanted: By Rogan the butcher"

Consular "Intercept and destroy the Javelin Dreadnaught"

Agent "Protecting the Shadow Arsenal"

Sith Inquisitor "Aspirant to the Dark Council"

Other than the Dark Council, these names are fairly unknown to the community. While it is possible to speculate about what they are or how they will effect each class' unique story, at this time there is not enough information to make a strong conclusion.

Timeline

The timeline represents a large number of the people encountered in the media released by BioWare and LucasArts. As the videos continue to move backwards through time, we are constantly introduced to characters whose actions have shaped the galaxy into what it will be when TOR goes live.

Gnost-Dural

Gnost-Dural
Gnost-Dural is a Historian for the Jedi Order. This Kel Dor is the narrator to each of the timeline videos. Well spoken and to the point, he is a ardent detractor of the Sith and their practices.

Hylo Visz

Hylo Visz
Hylo Visz was a Mirialan smuggler that is known for breaking the blockade. A typical Mirialan, Hylo resembles a Human with yellow skin and markings that appear similar to tatoos. She was rumored to be killed shortly after breaking the blockade for betraying a Hutt.

Mandalore (Deceased)

Mandalore dec.
This Mandalore was a gladiator winner that received the title after a series of fixed fights. Upon his rise to power he rallied the Mandalorians to his side and, through the secret influence of the Empire, they proceeded to fight the Jedi. He was eventually slain and succeeded by a new Mandalore.

Mandalore (Current)

Mandalore current
After slaying the gladiator who united the Mandalorians, a new Mandalore arose. The timeline implies that this second Mandalore will be the current leader of these fierce warriors during The Old Republic. It is not yet known who he is or whether or not he is a puppet for the Empire.

Belth Allusis

Belth Allusis
Belth Allusis was the Jedi Master in charge of Bothawui's defense. He died during the battle and is remembered as a hero for inflicting such damage on the Sith in the battle.

Grand Moff Zellos

Grand Moff Zellos
Zellos was the Grand Moff in charge of the Imperial assault of Bothawui. It is implied that he was still alive after the battle by the Bothawui and could still be a prominent figure in TOR.

Thanks for the information DH and always look forward to your speculations. Im pretty sure SWTOR does too!!!

Comment by Zioni made on April 8th, 2010 at 7:42am
Guaranteed that players on Bothawui will discover that Jedi Belth Allusis went dark in his battle with the Sith and that is a key component to him inflicting heavy damage on the Sith before he died there. Sounds like a great opportunity for story telling there. Maybe he and his forces started using extreme tactics, etc. etc.

I love the 4th pillar. :)

I'm really interested to see how Mandalorians will be worked into this game.

Just to clarify, they are Sith aligned right buuut...

The time line video describes them as "Independent warrior nomads" and have a " rugged sense of honor"

I'm not sure if it's bioware just going the extra mile, but I see them describing this faction/race/culture to the

extent to actually have them play a serious roll for the sith, and not just be a meatlump type mob running around

outside the big cities. What do you guys think? :)

Comment by Tricky made on April 14th, 2010 at 7:36pm
So I am, man. What in the hell is up w/the new Mandalore?

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on April 8th, 2010 at 6:22pm
It's a shame Mandos aren't a third faction. I like the idea of 3 factions and how they check and balance each other in PvP, especially in regards to population imbalance. One faction gets too large, the other 2 smaller factions can gang up on the big guy in PvP. Mandos would've been an easy choice for a third faction. Heck, maybe BioWare will throw a whammer of a reveal before launch and announce just that. :)

Mandalorians are important to the Sith to keep the Republic destabilized and make it harder for them to fight against the Sith.

The time line video describes them as "Independent warrior nomads" and have a " rugged sense of honor"

That right there is the main reason why there alliance with the Sith is not very reliable. Once they find out that they're just puppets to the Sith they will revolt and turn there focus on the Sith.

Comment by vipes65 made on April 11th, 2010 at 12:32pm
I'd guess that there will be two Mandalorian factions, loyalists to the current Mandalore, and a secret resistance type group that want to overthrow him.

To add to what you are saying, it is unknown if the new Mandalore is a puppet for the Empire like the previous one. Could be they are back to being completely independent.

Comment by chronium made on April 7th, 2010 at 11:28pm
I'm a believer of the Sith killed the old Mandalore to replace him with someone with more military experience and easier to control, theory.

Comment by Korrick made on April 8th, 2010 at 5:58am
That is an interesting theory, and it makes a lot of sense I have never thought of that, but im going to bet your right on that one.

thanks guys, that helped clear things up for me.

In the image for Lord Angral, it looks like he has some kind of artificial eye and/or eye socket - do you think this may be a character customisation option or something like that?

I had almost forgotten how horrible the art was in The Threat of Peace. Nice reminder of the names in the holonet though, thanks.

Comment by Tudana made on April 11th, 2010 at 9:15am
I thought it was just me, the art really confused me alot in following the story of the comic.

Thanks DH you helped me clear some fog up in some areas.

'Sith Inquisitor "Aspirant to the Dark Council" '
It probably already has been commented before I register to DH, but I wonder how in swtor your character will be able to join the Dark Council and promoted to ' Sith Lord'. I'm sure Bioware thought about this, as they wanted to give our character a more epic side, contrary to what occurs in WoW, in which no matter what you achieved, you remain an 'anonymous soldier'.
By extension, I'm curious to see if there will have some specific requirements to become the 'emperor', though I already figure the difficulties it may create regarding the story and its implementation in a MMO.

Comment by ValiceKohn made on April 7th, 2010 at 1:46pm
I would think it's almost impossible to become the "emperor" in ToR, but a member of the Dark Council could be a possibility. Be it that if there are 12 members; 4-6 could be actual players, where as PvP come's into play. But who knows.

Comment by JediCosmin made on April 7th, 2010 at 2:47pm
I agree. Who knows, maybe the Inquisitor will be put in the situation to assasinate one of the Council members and take his/her place. Betrayal is the way of the Sith after all.

The Knight's aurabesh was my favorite though: "Destined to become the Emperor's nemesis". Hoping for a nice confrontation :P

Comment by Evolancer made on April 7th, 2010 at 3:51pm
I agree with you both.
'maybe the Inquisitor will be put in the situation to assassinate one of the Council members and take his/her place'
It made me think that we haven't thought about the Sith Warrior. He should be able to reach the Dark council with his ways also.

Comment by JediCosmin made on April 8th, 2010 at 5:32am
Mybe, though it doesn't really fit him in my perspective. I imagine that the Warrior will have an aspiration of a General or Commander of the Sith Armada rather than a member of the Dark Council, but then again, i don't see why u can't be both :P

Comment by chronium made on April 7th, 2010 at 6:30pm
It would be possible in a single player game or a player driven content MMO but it's very wishful thinking that any player would be allowed to become a council member in TOR it wouldn't make sense and it would require them to develop a completely new game just to provide content for you to do.

Javelin Dreadnaught? Some new prototype capital ship for the Sith Empire perhaps?

Comment by Macabrie made on April 7th, 2010 at 7:55pm
My thoughts exactly Xavier; there is a Star Dreadnought production line (of which the Eclipse and Executor are apart of).

To add to this topic, here is a quote from one of the members of TIG:

I'm going to have a problem with Ships and continuity in the Star Wars timeline, I just know it. Here's my main problem: Design. Especially from the Sith PoV.

The problem is that we're 3,000 years BBY. Kuat Sienar, and Rendili (the major manufacturers for the Galactic Empire), are either a fledgling company (Kuat), or under contract with the Alliance (Sienar and Rendili). So why should any of the Sith ships look like a Tie Fighter or Star Destroyer? I really hope they don't.

If anything, they should look like Hoersch-Kessel ships Munificent class (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Munif...s_star_frigate) or Lukrehulks (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lucre...d_Control_Ship). At least Kessel's ships were used by the Trade Federation and Banking Clan, both with ties to the Sith that go back at least 1,000 years. At least that's getting close.

They can't use MandalMotors designs because they weren't around until hundreds (not thousands) of years BBY. However, they could still use the designs of the Kandosii-type dreadnaughts, but that would be a Mando ship, not a Sith Ship.

If they've been in hiding, their starships should be entirely different designs. They can't be in hiding if they come out with star destroyers. Kuat or Rendili would have had to make those, and that means they're not hidden. I hope to see an entirely new look on how to make starships (especially capital ships) look menacing. Here's hoping that BW does starship design right.

Comment by dege made on April 8th, 2010 at 3:42am
I've tough of this as well, didn't know about the different manufacturers though.

Ever since I first saw the deceived trailer I thought it was weird that the sith ships got the same design as the ships the republic use 3000 years later in the clone wars. It's not like you want to use ships reminds everyone of one of the worst enemies of the republic. Especially when the ship design is like an icon for their side, the first the allies and the foes see when you enter a battle. It's not so much for functionality (not like our planes where we have to consider aerodynamics etc).

Perhaps the shape does serve a purpose. For example, our stealth bombers/fighters have a triangle shape with lots of flat edges to confuse radar. Perhaps there is some sort of tactical/manufacturing advantage to flying a giant triangle rather than a more organic shape.

Comment by Xavier made on April 8th, 2010 at 11:28am
It allows all port and starboard Turbo laser batteries to swival forward and concentrate all fire on targets directly infront of the ship.

Also, remember, Malak's ship, The Leviathan and Nihilus' ship The Ravager were both vaguely Star Destroyer esque. The Leviathan was also a product of the Star Forge. It therefore stands to reason, that the standard wedge shaped design, dates all the way back to the Rakata's Infinite Empire. So, it's quite possible that Kuat and Rendili researched the past to look for inspiration for future designs. It's happened in Naval design in our own history, why not in Star Wars history?

Heck, it even happens in car manufacturing, The new Mustang, Thunderbird (didn't last), Camaro, Charger and Challenger designs all look to the past to evoke that classic muscle car design, while being refined for the tastes and styles of today.

One post below your thread I linked to a post on force forums where users were looking for the same thing and I put the links to what they found as well.

How could all of you missed that?

Comment by Xavier made on April 8th, 2010 at 12:50pm
Probably because I posted 6 minutes after you did and this posts newest comment on top. So, people saw my comment first and a discussion started. That and I don't want to make another user account on yet another forum when I can just discuss it here. I'm a member of to many forums as it is.

I was just adding to your comment about the ship and what I found on that force.net thread, not that you should go register and contribute.

I would think that Grand Moff Zellos was killed for his failure to capture Bothawui considering the flashpoint demo and Biographies section named Kilran as the current Grand Moff. There's only 1 Grand Moff all the others are just regular Moffs.

Comment by Xavier made on April 7th, 2010 at 12:21pm
Not always true. In the time of the original trilogy, Tarkin wasn't the only Grand Moff. There was also Grand Moff Hissa and I believe one other. They were in charge of oversectors. They were also called "regional governors." Hence Leia's "Govenor Tarkin, I thought I smelled your foul stench when I was brought on board."

In the biographies section of the holonet it also says "After the war ended, he was granted the honorary title Grand Moff in recognition of his contributions." While not conclusive, the term "honorary title" implies that title is indeed only an honorific. One that can be bestowed on numerous moffs and not a singular position of authority over the other Moffs.

Not so long ago I actually thought about going through characters to write down their most important bits so I could remember them myself when I'd play SWTOR. But I figured wookieepedia would update itself, and now you guys are doing the work for me :p
