So here is my idea about the green speech bubble. This needs to be confirmed by people who have had hands on experience.

Could the green text bubble simply mean that the person has not chosen one of the three responses yet? When they choose that is when the random number pops up.

Comment by Whiteriver made on July 6th, 2010 at 5:45pm
Could the little green speech icon indicate that someone is using a mic, or just holding the push-to-talk key, or something?

Awesome dissection as always. Although, the Sith Warrior's facial markings seems to be just the burn options we may or may not have at character creation screen.

I am talking about these: http://swtor.com/news/news-article/20100115_001-0

I find it interesting that there is debate about whether Sith and Jedi classes will share one type of ship. From the announcement I always assumed that would be the case. The official post on the TOR site says:

"Smuggler ships, Trooper ships, Imperial Agent ships, Bounty Hunter ships, Jedi ships and Sith ships."

While this does not explicitly state that Jedi and Sith classes share one type of ship, it does seem to pretty strongly indicate it. Perhaps that is just one downside they are building into the game since Jedi and Sith could be so prevalent, to encourage people to try other classes.

Comment by Elkesai made on July 1st, 2010 at 5:45pm
Indeed, it has been my assumption from the beginning as well, since it's fairly straightforward. I didn't know, nor did I expect there to be a debate on the matter.

Acording to what I remember from movie and some quote from Wookieepedia: "Han Solo was frozen in carbonite on Darth Vader's orders to test whether a Human could survive being encased in carbonite before his plan to freeze Luke Skywalker." So if they try this 3700 years before, it probably mean:
first - that this knowledge was forgotten and Vader must test this to confirm,
second - in old republic era they kill people when frozen them in corbonite (so in Empire Strikes Back this technology enchanced). Its confuse me when I saw this in video :)

Not sure if it's been covered before or not but a friend from the official forums wanted me to point out that the lights on the corners of the smuggler portable sheild can be seen changing colors (green to yellow to red). This could be an indication of damage done to the sheild and thus hit points on the shield left or time left before expiration.

We pointed that out in a past dissection.

Comment by Korithian made on June 30th, 2010 at 12:13am
Nice work as always.

By the looks of things only the person who wins the conversation dice roll gets any xp. Surely this encourages single play as if I group with another person (on average) I will get half the xp. If I group with 2 people a third and a full squad of 8 people I'm get 12%. And thats if I win an average of the rolls, I could walk out with no XP?

That seems a strange choice where it actively discourages grouping as it then requires the player to go out and make up the lost xp by grinding.

Comment by vipes65 made on June 29th, 2010 at 8:34pm
I am pretty sure the green speech bubble next to the group member's portrait is just showing that they are a group member involved in the conversation.. and not you.

As it is possible for a group member to not be involved in the conversation.

DH Team
Comment by sado made on June 30th, 2010 at 2:17am
Well that is disproved by the fact that the imperial agent is involved in the conversation as well during that clip. The same thing happens in the sith warrior/inquisitor video.

Comment by vipes65 made on June 30th, 2010 at 9:58pm
Yes I know the Agent is involved in the quest. But what I'm saying is that we are seeing the UI from the perspective of the Agent as if we were playing him. The green speech bubble is for YOU'RE group mates. If we were seeing it from the Bounty Hunters perspective then the green speech bubble would be over the Agent.

You can tell the Agent is the first person character because the portrait is bigger. As in he's not a group mate.. he is YOU so to speak.

Comment by vipes65 made on July 3rd, 2010 at 4:20pm
I'm right.. as the group entered the conversation in the multiplayer video.. everyone besides the consular got a green speech bubble.. because the consular is the first person player.

Okay to image 13/22, BioWare has already stated and confirmed there will be Companion customizations so you can knock that out of speculation for that specific screenshot. Also, the last image, shame on me, because I don't get it one bit. So how about a tiny explanation for some of us who don't have that great of a nerdbrain. Besides all of that, nice work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Han Solo was frozen in carbonite at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. It is one of the most iconic scenes in the history of Star Wars. So...yeah...

Comment by Fiasco made on June 29th, 2010 at 3:53pm
Customization has already been covered below.

The guy in Carbonite is a salute to Hal Solo from episodes 5 & 6. The SS is most likely from a Hutt Palace somewhere on Hutta.

Going off a comment below about unique design of armor, and how much there will be:

Did anyone notice how detailed the NPC armor is? Most MMO's (even the behemoth WoW) have very pixelated, not unique armor sets for NPCs. You can tell they are NPCs just by the lower quality design of their clothes. Bioware has blown me away on their attention to detail to make the NPCs look as legitimate as the player characters. I think it is an important step to take to make the "fully voiced" mmo feel believable.

Comment by Darinth made on June 30th, 2010 at 4:50am
I'll second that

Appearances that actually appear unique across races/factions? Yes please

Comment by Elkesai made on July 1st, 2010 at 5:48pm
Wouldn't that be nice? Instead of everyone fighting to look exactly the same across the board?

Comment by AnthonyEBonds made on June 29th, 2010 at 11:24am
The Dashade companion was seen on the Fury Class Imperial transport. To my understanding, each of the 8 classes will have a unique ship (one class for the trooper, another for the bounty hunter, still another for the inquisitor, etc). We also know that the companions you gain will roam your ship, similar to the KOTOR series. I am curious, since the dashade is seen on the Fury Class Imperial transport, does this mean the Sith Warrior will have the opportunity to befriend a Dashade as well? As always, spectacular finds DH Team/Community.

Speaking of dissecting the new E3 content, I wonder if the "Hope" trailer suggests that Force users are able to use the Force on the environment (i.e. taking down a tree, hurling objects at the enemy, etc).

Comment by Fiasco made on June 29th, 2010 at 10:27am
James Ohlen said that companion characters would be getting different gear as they leveled. Further proving pic 14 is the same guy.

""You're gonna be able to customize your companion character in different ways," Ohlen continued. "Your companion characters are going to be leveling up and getting different equipment." "

Nice one again DH team.

I was under the impression that every class gets his/hers own ship and is different from every other class. It seems though that the ship for both Jedi and Sith classes are going to be the same. If the companion in the Jedi ship is Qyzen Fess then it should be a Consular ship, but we've seen a Knight approaching it. Same goes for the Sith ship. Teneb Kel seems to be a Inquisitor, but we are seeing a Warrior in the clips.

Check out this thread on the DH forums about this very same discussion. I also believe it is odd from the way the companions are presented.

Comment by Xexxes made on June 29th, 2010 at 5:07am
It could also be that these are the 2 ships which are currently finished, so they are just showing them off.

Comment by Bzrk made on June 29th, 2010 at 5:45am
Not likely. Bioware wouldn't mix and match stuff and then show it. They've been pretty straight forward when displaying such big features.

Comment by Jaramukhti made on June 29th, 2010 at 4:45pm
Their specific statement was, paraphrasing, "we don't release info until it is completed."

These may only be the ships we start out with, or they may be the only ships we can get right off. However, we can't know either way until BioWare comes out and confirms it, flatly. It could be the others are simply not done yet, or further expansions will include different ships that can be purchased, or obtained through completing objectives, etc. In any case, I do remember reading somewhere that ships won't be entirely faction specific, but likely, class specific.

Comment by Bzrk made on June 30th, 2010 at 4:00am
I know BW does not release info until it's finished, but that's just the point now isn't it. If it's "completed" then that means all Jedi and all Sith will habe the same ships and companions. And that's just the thing I don't believe just yet :)

Comment by heybarn made on June 29th, 2010 at 12:13am
Is the green speech bubble with the "..." possibly whose quest (class quest?) it is? Maybe any final action is going to be that person performing the task eg shooting the guy in the head? Hmmm...

Good work all round :-)

Oh, the BH armour could SO have a colour 'dye' system like Mass Effect 2 to make people look a bit different (x2 colour tints, pattern tint, edges etc).

Comment by Darinth made on June 29th, 2010 at 4:04am
The ME2 comparison is exactly what came to me as well

Looks to me like the third gear set (the one with the racing stripe) is the same model as used in previous vids - specifically the combat video - but with a different colour set. The one in the combat video was also 'striped' but with dark green and red, so I'm thinking that the pattern is fixed but the colours are changeable.

Seems like it's going to be very much like ME2, probably a slider system going through the colour options

It also seems that we've been seeing characters wearing accessories too: the pic attached to the above post shows bare arms while the combat video ( http://darthhater.com/uploads/blog_images/6405/BH_Dual_Wield_sm.jpg ) has some kind of ammo pack

Comment by Loekii made on June 29th, 2010 at 10:01am
IMO, different 'color' is being considered 'different gear', in terms of the 'hundreds/thousands' of different armor.

So when the Devs say there are hundreds of different armor sets, it could mean something like there are only:

* - 10 Armor sets
* - 10 pattern designs
* - 20 color combination

Basically, a handful of armor sets, with numerous pattern and color combination, rather than 500 structurally different Armor combination.

Comment by Peterisjustok made on June 29th, 2010 at 11:40am
I agree that's how they are coming to higher number, including different factors besides just design; I also believe that they will legitimately come up with hundreds of unique armor sets for each class (perhaps some sharable between classes), while still having these other factors.

Individuality and armor are such a huge driving force for people to play MMO's, it would seem crazy not to include as much as they can in the game.

The guy in the bottom left corner in the screenshot with the bounty hunters (second one from the bottom) seems to be a "Weequay". That's the first in-game screenshot of that species as far as I know. (if u wanna add it to the pic)

Comment by r2d2arm made on June 28th, 2010 at 6:12pm
Just a NPC as far as I can tell. Nothing too amazing since members of their species were commonly hired by criminal organizations such as those run by Hutts.

Comment by Nexic made on June 28th, 2010 at 6:18pm
"Just a NPC" - That doesn't change the fact that it's a screenshot of a species never seen before in ToR. With your attitude.. why bother dissecting at all?

It's already confirmed that you can get gear for companions I believe, so the customization of companions isn't anything new.

Comment by r2d2arm made on June 28th, 2010 at 4:03pm
Good dissection. I have not looked too closely at the origin world videos yet. I've been waiting for a download link for those videos.

As for some specific notes, I believe the trooper "shield" could be similar to the shields in the KOTOR games which encompassed one's body. The carbonite slabs are probably the same as the Star Wars Discussion forum icon.

Comment by Caliber made on June 28th, 2010 at 4:14pm
The "shields" could also be a buff graphic.

True, I also thought the animation for activating the skill / shield was similar to the one for activating shields in KOTOR.

i am most interested in the logos on the BH's arm....when it shows 2 instances of an imperial logo, one of an unknown logo...possible crime/traitor/neutral faction?

Comment by Goom made on June 28th, 2010 at 5:24pm
One thing about these differing logos that comes to mind is the mmo-report E3 part one (http://g4tv.com/videos/46991/The-MMO-Report-E3-2010-Special-Part-1/?quality=hd ). At the end there is an interview with Daniel Erickson and he mentions while talking about the BH class that they aren't necessarily allied with the sith. "We've got the bounty hunter, very much your own man out there *not part of the empire* just gettin' paid, doin' the job." Could be a slip of the tongue, could just relate to the story of BH (i.e. not necessarily loyal but they are willing to pay BH for their services but the republic is not) but this is the first comment I've heard like this and the BH attacking sith supports this.

Comment by Khams made on June 29th, 2010 at 3:48am
Either way, they're part of the 'empire' faction, making their aligment is .. well, pointless. You're forced to cooperate with the empire.

Comment by illandhil made on June 28th, 2010 at 3:52pm
The conversation ellipsis I believe to be not who is talking but an indicator that a player is making a dialogue choice still. At least that's what I gathered.

Comment by Goom made on June 28th, 2010 at 3:46pm
For personalizing gear on companions I could have sworn that that was already confirmed in print or in an interview somewhere, could be wrong though as that seems liek something the guys here at DH should have known.

Great dissection nonetheless!

Comment by Posiden made on June 28th, 2010 at 6:39pm
Yes they confirmed you could customize gear for companions awhile ago. At least from what I remember.

Comment by Peterisjustok made on June 28th, 2010 at 4:22pm
Yeah... I think I remember what you mean. They were talking about making companions "distinct" from other companions so they don't all blend together when you are in a group with another class who has the same companion. They were acknowledging the issue if nothing else.

I can't remember if they referred to gear directly though.

Comment by Fiasco made on June 28th, 2010 at 4:12pm

About Qylen Fess:
Maybe they gave him armor that doesn't look interesting because they didn't want anyone to confuse him with a PC?

Even more interesting is that he was first shown alongside a Jedi Consular, and are now shown aboard a Jedi Knight's ship.

EDIT:
Xavier: "With both the Jedi Knight and Consular companions on the Vanguard, and both the Inquisitor and Warrior companions on the Fury class, this seems like further confirmation that both Jedi will have the Vanguard and both Sith will have the Fury. Which, I haven't seen a dev come out and say, but it makes perfect sense. "

I agree, this could be the explanation.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I find it of note that the image showing the cockpit of the sith vessel (where the Juggernaught is highlighted) clearly shows the ship flying in space

However, personally I don't think this means space travel but rather a 'state' of your ship. whether you're on-route to another plant (may not be instantaneous) or just tinkering with your workbench. After all, it wouldn't feel right if you can only use it when you're docked in port

Comment by sado made on June 28th, 2010 at 2:35pm
We actually didn't include that point in the dissection because the developers have already pointed this out in multiple interviews. It's a good point to bring up though if people have not heard of it.

Comment by Hobowan made on June 28th, 2010 at 3:48pm
What exactly did they point out? All I remember regarding space is the famous "can't talk about that". They announced player ships, yes, but not what they do other than serving as a house and some sort of travel mechanism. If and in how far this includes actually being in space (in opposition to instantaneous, WoW continent like travel) is unclear. So what statement are you refering to sado, I must have missed that one.

As for the comment on the fact that both individuals take darkside points, I'd imagine that in the party situation everyone makes the choice of which dialogue they wish to use, and the winner of the roll gets their selection used. I'd speculate that as a demo the players are instructed to choose specific story options and as such they would get the same darkside/lightside points regardless of who won the roll.

At least, that is what I would hope for.

Comment by Xavier made on June 28th, 2010 at 2:02pm

Which, I haven't seen a dev come out and say, but it makes perfect sense.

Also, the "Applying Coloration" on the Bounty Hunter armor progression shot is intriguing. Possible hint at "appearance tab" type system.

Comment by r2d2arm made on June 28th, 2010 at 3:47pm
My post on the DH forums ( http://darthhater.com/forum/topic/6/page/9 ) is along the same train of thought as your first comment about the ships. As for applying coloration, I thought it was more cosmetic.

Comment by Tricky made on June 28th, 2010 at 3:31pm
That's a pretty big conclusion to jump too, I'd like appearance tabs too, but still..." applying coloration" leads me to think it's just simple armor dyes.

We've seen so many color variations of Shae Vizla's Bounty Hunter armor now, the female BH in silver armor from both cinematic trailers, I really cannot wait to get that armor on my BH's & see what I can do with it to make it all me.

Comment by ArcherAvatar made on June 28th, 2010 at 1:53pm
By far the most interesting for me were the implications of armor upgrades for companions, and the Aurebesh info on the BH's armor progression. Personalizing and customizing is an extremely important facet of a MMO for alot of folks, so this will be welcome news indeed.

Having played ME a ridiculous number of times the armor upgrades for the companions is not really a surprise, but is just as welcome as the character customization will be. It would be horrible to show up for a raid involving multiple groups of players and see roughly 8 or 9 of the exact same companions milling about. At least this way their appearance can be modified somewhat.

(btw... bless you for posting this today... Monday was looking pretty bleak for me, but once again DH came thru with flying colors for me.)

Great finds. Honestly I find the most interesting part to be the Aurebesh translations from the BH armor screen. Specifically: Applying Coloration and Attaching Accessories.

This looks like classic BW hinting at what we can expect from gear customization (considering they know how people love to dissect the Aurebesh). I sort of assumed armor dye would be in, a system I love btw, along with some range of accessories. In this case I'm going to assume that means things like the jetpack, wrist flamer, the com device from the helm in the 3rd pic? Also note that the second pic has something applied to the char's right wrist while the third has something applied to the left wrist. Of course that could just be aesthetic.

Anyway great stuff as always, keep it coming =D

Thank you. Refreshing to see something.

I am a little concerned about the Morality Point 'Lock out' and 'auto-allocation'. It sounds like if you are locked out of making a choice (ie already did it), that you are at the will of the Group Leader.

For example, if the IA in Image 4 (the lower 'group' icon) was focusing on only 'Light' Morality Choices, he has basically takes a 'hit' because of the choice of his BH companion -- ie gained undesired Dark side points.

Not so. Bioware has clearly stated that group members have no impact on your morality points. So an IA could choose a light response and you could choose a dark response, you would get credit for only your choice.

I'm glad thats so, but with that said how does it work? Say the group leader selects the "dark side" choice, that does end up being the way the quest follows, so you lose out on your "light side" points that you wanted, or vice versa? Was just wondering if anyone had some kind of insight on this.

In image 10 with the Sith Warrior (the one you won't speculate ;) ) could it be facial features that develop over time based on light/dark side points?

They confirmed that they are looking into adding such features, but might not depending on performance issues.
