That Alexander Freed Interview was F-ing great! It really gave me a much bigger insight to what quests are all about in this game and the process behind it.

After 200+ hours twinking my toon out, I hope to have fun with PvP. Similar to DAoC where the real fun begins once you max out in level (user proclaimed level 51 "rr5").

"Not every class can play every race. Each class has a selection of races to choose from."

Not sure Ive fully embraced this yet. Ive played nearly every MMO released from 1999 to now (for a period of 3 months or longer) and they all follow a similar structure. For example, I didnt play WoW beyond 3 levels but I do remember making a character on each side so I could see what races you could be. At least it was global on both sides. In this game theyre limiting per class? I really think they should just limit per faction...Empire/Republic.

Not that its a big deal regardlessIn PvP no one is going to really see my toon endgame. As long as I can dye my Bounty Hunters armor Ill be happy.

Comment by LethalSharpshooter made on July 25th, 2010 at 5:48pm
It's fitting for the Star Wars lore. We wouldn't see Miraluka (an all Force sensitive species) as Troopers, for example.

Comment by abner_ford made on July 25th, 2010 at 5:18pm
It's likely to add flavor to each class as well as avoiding over-population by specific races. Or just keeping things logical in the world, such as preventing Chiss Inquisitors or something.

Comment by LethalSharpshooter made on July 25th, 2010 at 11:24am
At 29:04, he says that one of the Bounty Hunter's companions will be called something like "Mayko" - I wonder if it's the same girl we saw in the Bounty Hunter PAX demo last year?

She is the same girl shown in the Demo.

First off, a big thank you to all the DH staff for getting this information out so quickly and so completely. You guys rock!

Lots of great things of interest in the full recording. One thing I heard that I hadn't seen mentioned yet was concerning Flashpoints. Around the 44:00 mark it was said that they would be very similar to dungeons in other MMOs and also that they would be repeatable. I'm very glad to hear they're repeatable, and I also am interested to see how they implement repeated play in the context of choices that matter (e.g. killing the captain in the one flashpoint we've already been shown).

As a note: I just uploaded the mp3 version to the site and chopped off a bit of the loud screams and other noise. For those wanting an mp3 version or just want a more listenable version, download the mp3 version above. The audio is still dodgy at times but it's a bit more manageable.

Also, the flash player is now working with the file.

Just right click/save link as and download it to your desktop before opening it if it isn't working in safari. You should be able to play it regardless on a mac if you have a proper audio player ;).

Comment by Darklight made on July 24th, 2010 at 10:47am
They mention a Bounty Hunter companion named Mako(sp?) at around 29 mins in the audio recording. Probably the same Mako we saw in the 20 min developer walkthrough vid released some time back. She was introduced as an intelligence and tech expert. The Bounty Hunters support companion perhaps?

Comment by Ocia made on July 24th, 2010 at 10:39am
Yay!! space combat!

Boo!! saying they will never allow faction swap, I though that would be really cool for an expansion a few years after release.

I'm also not fully on board with liking the visual lightsaber restriction, I understand why they are doing it, kindof spoils the fun a little when you will always know which advanced class someone is just because what weapons they are holding. Also, I want to tank with double-bladed lightsabers on my jedi knight dernit!!

Comment by abner_ford made on July 25th, 2010 at 5:10pm
Faction swapping would open up a huge can of worms as far as class-balance is concerned, both PvE and PvP. I'm very happy that they avoided that by deciding to not allow it. You can already go light, dark or grey through the course of your story, I think that's sufficient customization.

Comment by HarryTruman made on July 24th, 2010 at 2:32am
Excited about space combat, but extremely disappointed that the Consular's been officially confirmed as a ridiculous Darth Maul mirror in the DPS department. I was really looking forward to the class too.

Comment by abner_ford made on July 25th, 2010 at 5:06pm
The only thing they said was that the DPS tree for a Consular was going to use the double-bladed saber. How do you get that being a "mirror" class to the Inquisitor, who uses lightning-based attacks primarily?

Comment by Nexic made on July 24th, 2010 at 9:35am
They _are_ mirrors. What the hell were you expecting? And it's not "Consulars" - it's just one of the ACs for them. You can still play your healer/caster spec.

Comment by DramaticExit made on July 24th, 2010 at 5:52am
That seems a bit extreme.. I see it more as if you go double light saber with Consular, choose Advanced Class A and then heavily invest into Talent Tree (or equivalent) X, you'll be on the dps route. I'm sure there'll be plenty of other roles in terms of healing, CC, buff/debuff.. and probably other talent lines to support them.

Comment by Lancet made on July 24th, 2010 at 10:58am
So.the fact they use the same weapons makes them a clone ? That is ridiculous logic, thats like saying that because a samurai and a british general both possess swords they MUST fight the same. Were talking the difference between subversive demoralization vs acrobatic telekinetics

not to mention the difference in lightning powers, debuffs and the likely alternate of telekinetics, buffing. Also theres a visual difference here, in the weapons even. Look at the concept for the weapons, the staff sabers themselves have vast visual difference, albeit the blade is still made of light :P

- I think we have far too little information to speculate cloning of classes, and even if there is some basic resemblance can you really be surprised ? They both use a lightsaber.

Comment by Night_Stryker made on July 24th, 2010 at 1:42am
Great update, but I wonder... If we got all this info now, what would we have got if SWTOR received 30,000 Tweet followers, and 200,000 likes on Facebook?

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on July 24th, 2010 at 6:09am
Pictures/video of the combat? Probably not much, don't wanna take away the steam from PC Gamer's issue next month.

Comment by Cellal made on July 24th, 2010 at 5:40am
I believe they said that while they didnt make it all the way to the projected numbers, that they got enough likes and whatnot to go ahead and release this.

Comment by Varnsta made on July 24th, 2010 at 6:16am
Yeah Sean said with the announcement that this was the special FB/Twitter reveal which i suppose we would have otherwise got with the PC Gamer mag hitting the shelves. I think this again speaks volumes about Biowares understanding and attention to the forum and internet followers. A word on Space combat either way was just becoming a little overdue and the forum topics were reflecting it more and more. Perfect timing, again, to soothe things with a well timed reveal. Confident and professional to the max. Brilliant.

Comment by Jamis made on July 23rd, 2010 at 9:23pm
Anything would be fine with me other then the lame Mass Effect 2 planet scanning you had to do.

Comment by cdstephens made on July 23rd, 2010 at 8:01pm
Meh, so nothing really new then except for space combat and customization. Everything was either obvious, expected, or already revealed, excluding the Alderaan thing (it was expected that one faction would support the Republic and the other Sith). Good to see confirmation though on the Mandalorians being a big part of the BH, which was expected.

Comment by abner_ford made on July 25th, 2010 at 5:01pm
"So nothing really new except for space combat and customization"??? Honestly? That's a huge reveal. What else do you want? Not to mention the fact that Cathar were all but confirmed as a playable race earlier with the Fan Friday stuff.

"your player name is in your companion's nameplate."

Comment by Darth Ouranos made on July 23rd, 2010 at 7:58pm
Like a pet in other MMOs. In the case that other players of the same class have the same companion out as you and they have the same equipment, you'll know whose is whose.

Comment by Elkesai made on July 24th, 2010 at 2:10am
just having two of the same companion standing in the same area is a turn-off. So much for story.

Those other planes in the picture.... they look like a mixture of lobsters and old Zeros from WWII. I'm glad my SW will have the Fury, but if Troopers are stuck with that ship, I'm going to demand a rework of it.

"Siths get TIE-inspired Furys, Jedi get Vanguards, and what do Troopers get? Metal Sky Lobsters."

These are my favorite reveals today & forever for SWTOR, hells yeah it's been a good day.

My jaw dropped when I read this news. I really hope they arent spreading the action too thin, unless the server cap is large i can see areas being unpopulated if there's too many options.

Maybe i'm just over thinking...

Good news for those who like space combat. I'll keep my boots on the ground.

"If youve been following the news coming out of the Star Wars: The Old Republic panel at Comic-Con International, youve heard the announcement that we will indeed have Space Combat as part of the TOR experience! But what does that mean? Space combat is an alternative gameplay experience to the primary game of storytelling, questing, and ground-based combat. In space combat, you fly your personal ship to various hot spots on your galaxy map. From there, you will blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars space battles.

First negative news reveal (referring to space combat). Hopefully this will take place outside of traveling between planets because I can just imagine losers camping travel lanes to "gank" people trying to reach other planets.

Sean Dahlberg on SWTOR forums: "In space combat, you fly your personal ship to various hot spots on your galaxy map. From there, you will blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars space battles."

Doesn't sound like a PvP free-for-all.

Comment by Lancet made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:35pm
read the actual comment, there are Zones for this type of gameplay and will be secondary to the main gameplay - thus not required.

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=173964

states some good stuff about it

oh for goodness shakes how is that the negative.

Comment by Hurtfulpotato made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:22pm
I don't think we're going to wind up with EVE. I wouldn't be shocked if space combat were necessary for optimized max level play, the way PvP was required for optimized play in WoW*, but it'd be implausibly foolish for Bioware to let space gankers have free reign and impede basic gameplay.

*In the early 1800s when I last played it

Comment by Somerled made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:19pm
I bet space travel will be restricted to flight paths to planets and to zones in space where you can fly around, pve, and pvp. I could not foresee them allowing free flight everywhere.

Comment by DramaticExit made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:37pm
As you say, I'd guess this will be another option for pve or battleground-style pvp (4vs4, 8vs8 scenarios etc).

Now, I wonder if your Companion will fly with you, or be your gunner? :)

Comment by Somerled made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:40pm
That would be so cool.

Comment by Somerled made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:15pm
Space!!!! Now will the combat be EVE style or more like say Freelancer? I know joy sticks would be out of the question. But if it were like XvT I would pee myself. :)

Comment by DarkImperialAgent made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:19pm
That's my question. What kind of format will they use to deliver space combat?

Comment by Somerled made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:21pm
I honestly would love if the did it like Freelancer did instead of it being dice rolls in space like EVE is.

Comment by Chronx6 made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:14pm
As great as the space combat news was I'm kind of peeved at the fact they released this at a comic convention rather than a game convention like E3.

Oh well, its not a big deal. I'm just glad we are getting space combat!

Comment by Maximouse made on July 23rd, 2010 at 7:40pm
considering they had almost as many people watching live at comiccon as they did at e3 and this is a week when there's less other news being tossed around, it makes sense.
Also maybe they were still unsure whether to include it in e3 (could happen)?

Comment by Sinic made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:09pm
Space combat is very cool. Did you guys video record this or were you not aloud because of G4?

Comment by Jaelar made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:09pm
Seems like good news all around. Very happy to hear that Consular DPS AC is confirmed, the double bladed saber aspect of that was not a big surprise.

Space combat-now that was a surprise.

Awesome job with the live coverage. So many great things said. We got some details we were asking about and one big reveal. Now we can speculate for another 20 days about space combat.

Oh man, I am having orgasmic flashbacks of tie fighter and X Wing games from the '90s.

Comment by Hewo made on July 23rd, 2010 at 6:27pm
Those games were just....awesome. SImply amazing. If space combat feels like those games, but just updated graphics...I'm down.

You have to remember that Bioware is not only trying to compete with WoW, but as well as Blizzzard's new mmo which also has an unlimited budget to work with.

Comment by Shriven made on July 23rd, 2010 at 6:30pm
How true is this. But it is still risky! let us all pray together.

"1:35PM PST - James Ohlen: Visual reason for lightsaber restriction; Jedi Consulars with double bladed lightsabers are DPS."

There go my hopes for a single stick DPS build.

Comment by Whash made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:22pm
Does this mean we can assume that the second AC is support/healing, or is there a possibility of it also having a DPS tree?

Comment by r2d2arm made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:59pm
1:50PM PST - James Ohlen: Not every class can play every race.

Finally, some confirmation on this point. This comment screams to me that Chiss will only be Imperial Agents, although could be wrong :p

Comment by DarkImperialAgent made on July 23rd, 2010 at 5:10pm
Finally some confirmation. People shouldn't get bent out of shape about this either. Every MMO has races that can only be play certain classes. This is not new.

Darth Maul was just misunderstood. Big softy at heart.

"You get light side points even if your group chooses dark side."

Is there more to that? Doesn't really make sense if you actions do not dictate your alignment... Unless you mean that your choice gets the associated points even if the majority of the group decides a dark path.

Comment by Furiel made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:50pm
Because the dialogue system is a random roll based on all the given responses when you are grouped this allows you to get the rewards for the option you choose, even if the die roll goes against you. Otherwise there was always the chance of people doing things like dialogue griefing by always picking options you won't like to try to screw up your alignment.

Comment by Evel made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:53pm
It is only random roll based in the case of a tie. Otherwise it is based on "majority-rules".

I figured out what they were trying to say, it was just explained a bit quickly that it could be confusing to others.

Comment by Hives made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:49pm
When 3 peeps choose "Kill him", and you choose "Spare his life" - they're getting DS points, you're getting LS. Simple ;]

Its like being the nice guy in a group of jerks. Just because your group is evil does not make you so.

Comment by gstommylee made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:43pm
I believe that is the case.

No faction swaps - ever.

well this ll put an and to a possible speculation orgy about the expansion features...

Comment by Dalqak made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:34pm
I read that as "House Cthulhu" initially and was stoked...

My hope is that space combat feels engaging and not just tacked on. I think I've been spoiled by EVE.

Comment by r2d2arm made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:27pm
House Thul, not surprised. Organa would be Republic-aligned.

It's Dromund Kaas :p

Comment by Evel made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:33pm
For those wanting some history:

The House of Thul was a noble house of Alderaan, and owners of Bornaryn Trading. Only a few members of the family were offworld when Alderaan was destroyed.

1:14PM PST - James Ohlen: World quests, flashpoints, and story arcs included.

Does that mean there would be world quest, flash points and story arcs that involve space combat?

Comment by chronium made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:22pm
I believe so, I would really be surprised if they didn't include it.

Comment by Isavetheday made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:21pm
This is what I'm thinking also.

Comment by snafu made on July 23rd, 2010 at 4:07pm
To recreate the classic space combat experience from the original trilogy, they implemented Space Combat in the form of you (the PC) manning a turret aboard your personalized ship and firing at enemy aircraft in a FPS style interface.
