I forgot the lady who is part of the DH podcast tonight, but towards the end she said hmmm there has'nt been a planet reveal in quite some time ...Then WHAMMO the next day Hoth pops up on the site... Im believe that the team at DH are getting alot of info from Bioware and Lucasarts now... seems so anyways that was just to convenvient for her to say that and then the planet is here... In my heart she had insider information from some source about this friday's update. Here's a good theoryl..... Darth Hater is actually a PR firm hired from inside Bioware and Lucasarts to deliver this information to us LOL love conspiracy theories

It is pretty common knowledge that the planet reveals usually happen the second week of the month.

Great podcast and thank you very much for answering my question about Advanced Classes being locked or not. I did want to point something out because I noticed you guys were debating on how people would know if they're making the right choice. An interview I read awhile back, I think it was Neri, said that they were devising a way for players to definitely know what they were getting themselves into upon choosing their advanced class. Pretty much implying a solution to any fears you guys had about making a bad decision. If I can find the article I will link it in this comment later. Again, thanks very much and keep up the great work. You guys are the best in my opinion.

I hope that once you make a critical choice path with your character in the game that there is no way to turn back. I personally like that alot. I hope that is the case. It makes it more personal, real, and compelling to the point where all the decisions that you make along the way will be carving out your unique individual class that will be unlike any other character build. No smuggler will truly have the same build as say another smuggler. But i know this will piss off a ton of " hey lets rush to the end game players." You know that will happen and the community will SCREAM " I want to reset my feats/skills or Ill quit whiners. This may to happen unfort. I hope it doesnt. This game is gonna be "YOUR personal Hero's Journey." Now with that in mind I forsee it taking quite awhile to get to the "End Game" for most players. I will first and foremost play this game for my love of Star Wars so the story of my character is gonna be awesum, also by looking at the gameplay footage recently I dont see any problems there. it's gonna be engaging, extremly in depth and fun. What did one of the Dev's say recently that the story has grown to over 1000 pages long.....WOW there gonna be soooo much to do. Also think about it once I get to level cap on one of my characters I def will be creating a new toon to go through the game again. the exciting thing about that is that it will be a completley new and different experience NICE!!!!

Just curious but has there been any mention of Bioware or Lucasarts being at PAX10 this year?

Would really like to know!

Btw great podcast, keep up the good work! I only trust DH for TOR news!

I think the only reason why we haven't head anything is; PAX hasn't even updated their site with the attendees list yet. Just keep and eye on www.paxsite.com over the next few months. We should probably hear by no later than the first, or second week of July, probably sooner.

Comment by engrey made on May 19th, 2010 at 7:26pm
While not official we would hope they would be. Seeing as they were present last year for the trooper demo, and with conventions being one of the main stages for releasing information we can only hope they will attend.

Comment by Frostbites made on May 19th, 2010 at 2:07pm
They have to have a reset in your points. Lets think about this a moment. If you picked one side thinking its gonna be something that you will like. A week or two later you might wonder what the other side would be like to play.
Now if your not able to switch your gonna be frustrated with because if you want to be able to see what it was like you gotta roll another toon in order to get to a taste of it. That is more annoying then anything actually imo.

One thing I hope they dont do is bloat the trees. Every game that uses talents type systems have abilities or enhancement type blocks that are meaningless. I hope they dont bloat a tree to much with that sorta stuff.

The skill based threw a profession type is a fair thing I believe in todays mmo's. To have to get better at an ability to use it over an over its discouraging to all ends. I hope they do not do this. The games that have had these skill based system I didnt enjoy them at all an sub only lasted a month or two maxed. I just see it as we are considered a Hero an I dont think seeing a Hero based class jumping up an down swimming is a circle is heroic. lol ya I can see it now with my friends hollaring you look heroic swimming around like that. :p

Also Emlaeh haha Im on the same boat. Evil pancakes all they way. Woman children slaughter em all :p
An to pod cast crew good week. Hopefully BW keeps up these type of Friday updates with game machanics

I don't really see them making the subclass changeable. I think the subclass will be permanent.
Just think of it as 8 and not 4 classes per side. You don't have a "reroll" button on your WOW warrior to see what a mage would be like at level 80. You have to reroll one and play it from 1 to 80.
I don't think the subclasses are just a slight alteration of each other. They will be a completely different game experience.
As for the talent trees per se, they will most likely be respeccable as in any other MMO.

Comment by PhoR11 made on May 20th, 2010 at 3:24am
But they've already confirmed that both AC's will share the exact same narrative.
So let's use your WoW example again.
In WoW, if you made a warrior and then decided you wanted to see what a mage was like, you could reroll a mage with a different race and start with completely different quests and zones to keep the experience fresh.
If what you assume is true that AC's are completely permanent, and since we know that starting planets are based on the Class you pick in ToR and not your race, then someone who chooses Scoundrel would literally have to play through his exact same experience again in order to be able to select Gunslinger.
That's actually WORSE than having to reroll a WoW character to play a different role.

In regard to the Trinity, or lack thereof in this game; I think you have to take into account their philosophy on innovation. I've heard BioWare say many times that; in MMOs, you can't innovate to much, or it will feel to foreign to the fans and it will fail. Conversely, if you carbon copy a previously successful game, you bring nothing new to the table and the fans won't come. So, what you have to do is; bring an experience that is familiar, yet has just enough innovation to be seen as new and unique.

With this thought process in mind, I think you will probably see familiar roles (tank, dps, support) however, they will probably be implemented in new and unique ways. I won't be just the same old Trinity. It will be some type of hybrid system as the DH team said.

Nice one DH team. Could you pitch up Em's voice next time please? She's hard to understand and you have to turn up the volume a fair bit. When she had her 15 minute monologue about the DD5 spec. I was really startled by Justin's voice when he started speaking suddenly.

On your comments about Open Beta. I totally agree. Open Beta imo is for 3 things. 1 - marketing. To create a last minute hype in the 4 - 8 weeks before launch.
2 - stress test of the network infrastructure. Lately seen with STO, when Open Beta started and the patch loading took people days (literally), Servers crashing and so on...
And 3 - mass test for game play and feedback - In my experience it is possible to get different feedback on game play from a broader audience and the opinion on the game could even shift when leaving closed and starting open beta. Then again, at the point of open beta, when he majority of the players don't like a big portion of the game play the developers will be screwed. Again, perfect example is STO ;)

But under no circumstances should the open beta be used as a mass bug test like in WAR. And if the developers even change the core game play, classes, content etc. in the open beta then I am really worried...

I haven't really followed anyother MMO pre launch so doesn't know how it usually is. But we have seen a lot of concept art on both weapons and armor. I just wonder if all classes will have their specific gear all the time or if there's common equipment that all who got the proper armor profiency can use.

If it is that every class only can use their class gear then while it would be great for the feel and look of the class I'm worried that it would hamper the amount of models you got available to you.

Comment by RogueJedi86 made on May 19th, 2010 at 7:13pm
One of the interviews last week had this bit that answers your question:

"We've got eight classes with all their different class stories, so it's not OK if by level 20 your trooper doesn't look like a trooper or your bounty hunter doesn't look like a bounty hunter, and instead it looks like everybody got drunk and went to the thrift store. That means we had to do more class specific art just for one class than many games would attempt in their entirety."

So every class will only use their own armor, but there will be lots of variety to make sure each class isn't lacking in armor. Just look at the dozens of pics of just Sith Warrior armor in this very article. TOR's art team is in overdrive with making all this armor. I can't wait to see all the dozens of variations on Smuggler and Trooper gear. :)

This doesn't really have anything to do with the podcast just didn't know where else to put it, anyway...

The swtor.com has recently gone offline for maintenance, never noticed that the site has gone offline before. Except maybe when everyone was signing up for game testing. Usually when such a big sites goes down it's something special happening.

If this is nothing special then nevermind, just wanted to give the heads up just in case.

Great episode. I'm with u Emlaeh, I think the same way about Advanced Classes. I mean - with 3 talent trees in each, there just MUST be huge variety and we won't be forced to be just "tank" or "healer", cause there are no typical trinity system in TOR IMO. Just hybrids.

p.s. Please make something with sound so I don't have to turn volume up when one person's speaking and then turn down, cause another guy is too loud ;p

Truly FANtastic episode folks!

The way you folks listen, and respond to, your community is exemplary. Whether the response is in the affirmative or negative, you always let us know that you heard us, and I for one love it.

I have to just say a quick word on the general tenor of this episode as well... I was repeatedly smiling, and repeatedly nodding my head as I listened today. You folks brought it back to some of the "feel" of the earlier casts IMO.
There were tons of good, old-fashioned speculation, that was really well thought out, and most importantly, there were different views expressed through the whole show. The exchanges between Sado and Emlaeh were simply awesome, and I enjoyed the input of all the participants, especially when they were not necessarily in complete agreement on a topic and discussing those differences of opinion. For me, that is when your shows really shine at their best.

Finaly word... I gotta give it to my boy Sado! Loved the response you gave when Em was jokingly ribbing you for the "drinking game Sado-isms" I literally cheered out loud while I was listening. LOL.

Oh, and thank-you very much for the comments addressing the "Search" function. Your website has grown over the last year or so quite a bit, and I for one still like to go back and re-read many of your articles to refresh my memory. It's a wonderful source of information, but it's also great just seeing how opinions on the game evolved over time and such ya know? Cheers!

Just a note to emlaeh. Looking at the SW pictures, I personally believe that the Left handed pictures are depicting the AC. Top is SJ and Bottom is SM. The right-side picture imo is the Sith Warrior armor sets before you become an AC. Top one is if your leaning toward a tankish like character. Tank-set armor if you'd like. And the bottom Bottom one is if your leaning toward a dpsish like character. Dps-Set armor if you'd like. Still 2 roles for the Class, and it denotes advancement of the class in two different directions.

Also I disagree with the Sith Warrior being all the melee archetypes, but I'll let that go.

Sado put the pictures in a different order than how I was talking on the podcast. I'll clarify this with captions.

Comment by MrPhire made on May 19th, 2010 at 9:32am
I looked at the captions, it still in no way indicates that it's a Balanced Armor set. The armor is robotic and tank-like. Something we are told over and over are not only main features of the Sith Warrior, but represents strength and endurance. What I am trying to say is that the armor sets on the left are after AC option. They represent exactly what a SJ and a SM are about, enhancing tank abilities and enhancing dps abilities (respectively). The armor sets on the right are (imo) lower level armor that is more generic. We see this in the fact that both of them are not as detailed and they seem more basic. They represent a Sith Warrior in which is still choosing his side. They represent (imo) a player who is leaning toward tanking (top) and a player who is leaning toward dpsing (bottom). Of course we have nothing to support this, because we don't have tooltips. But it fits better than the "balanced" speculation. If your good at everything, your not great in anything, thus making the Balanced only fitting situational PvP and maybe if we're lucky PvE. There has to be distinct lines, but there can't be priorities. What I'm trying to get at is that although your skills sets show that there is a way to be balanced between two (archetypes or roles) doesn't denote a balanced armor set. Very, very, few games have armor sets that work perfectly for two (archetypes or roles). This doesn't mean ToR has to follow in their steps, but it'd make less sense to have a balanced based armor sets.

Or even in simpler words. These pictures could be a foreshadowing of the two ACs. The top is tankish, the bottom dpsish. The top right still shows a evil robotic superman and that is what a Juggernaut is seemingly supposed to be.

That was a pretty long winded post to essentially say "I didn't notice the five outfits repeated at the top of SW outfitting progression chart (which has lower level outfits at the bottom of it). The only one not displayed in the two paired concepts looks very similar to Darth Vader, which is one of the iconic figures the SW is based on, so there really isn't a need to display the detail of it."

Comment by MrPhire made on May 18th, 2010 at 9:56pm
This was just seeing that those armor sets are simplistic, less robotic, and less detailed. To me it details a low level high end gear. Not a High level low end or high end gear. Which the left pictures paticular show a very VERY detailed armor set.

I also like to state that Emlaeh likes to hear herself talk. XD

Sorry for the multiple edits, but I'm listening and commenting.. Cause otherwise I just don't comment. Sith Inquisitor and Jedi Consular already has the lightstaff proficiency and doesn't have dual wield, which could mean even the SI and JC could unlock dual wielding proficiency. To your points about the SW being able to unlock the lightstaff proficiency.

Unfortunately we are told that the ACs are very MINOR story choices, so the speculation that it affects story greatly is very unlikely in story.

Both the Imperial Agent, Trooper, and Bounty Hunter are all need to be shed light on in terms of Advanced Classes.

I also must say, I loved getting on my flying mount and flying all the way up and falling into shat and ice blocking. Funnest thing in WoW, kind of sad to be honest.

Didn't EQ2 basically do a 'similar' advance class set up, when it first launched?

Advance Classes -- might we not see a 'story foretell' about the path choice that you will be presented?

Great podcast guys! Thanks for answering my call about targeting.

I did want to comment about what you talked about as far as the classes being permanant and picking the wrong one because it being unclear similar to Aion.

I don't know if it was just me and because I did have a chance to play China Aion and beta. But, I don't really know how you couldn't know what the different class choices were when it was time to choose. I mean, we are all following this game a year before it comes out. Most of us know what we want to play and even the play style we are looking for.

I find it hard to imagine (at least with the community now) that people are going to be choosing their class completely blind without any information. With Aion I knew that I was going to be mage cause I like to spell cast. I found out I could be either Sorc or spirit master. 1 is more DD orientated while the other used pets. Which using WoW references was like either Mage or Lock. I dunno it seemed kinda cut and dry.

Granted I could possibly see a brand new user not really knowing what to play and by brand new user I mean someone completely new to MMO's. Other than that I am sure the vast majority of the people on these forums and following are quite set on what roll they want to play. I would say the ones who aren't are the ones who are fighting to have the AC not be a permanant choice.

I also wanted to thank you guys for commenting again on that subject and do hope that it has clarified the matter for alot of people.

Cheers
